Think of moments in your life that have shaped who you are today. Sit yourself down and reflect on why it is you want this job. Think about why it aligns with your core values, with what you want to do or how it will help your future.

- Think about what kind of value you could add to the company
- Come up with your 30-second elevator pitch with an interesting hook

Join Facebook groups, Meetup groups, networking events, lectures and listen to career-related podcasts in order to grasp as much knowledge as youcan. Knowledge is potential power and the tips you can gain from experts in your desired field will help you kill your next interview. These groups are usually free and there are lots of other free resources out there as well. Simply typing into google what you are looking for will give you heaps of relevant information. A little research can take you a long way!
In university, I studied Business Accounting and joined the Accounting Forum for additional support. There were great resources within this group for networking with other accountants, mentoring each other, learning how to put together an appealing resume, how to update your LinkedIn profile, how to interact with recruiters and how to best prepare for the interviews.
The best job interview tips I received were to review behavioral questions and try to come up with an answer on the spot. Though these types of questions are specific to the Accounting field, this is why it is important to find a mentor or accountability partner who has already gone through this process. They can offer you guidance and share their experiences with you so that you don’t go into the interview feeling unprepared. 2.) Shift Your Mindset Into a Positive One and Walk Into Your Interview with Confidence!
Takegood care of your hygiene, sit up straight, be alert, make eye contact, listen well and represent yourself the best you can! Don’t undersell, but do oversell yourself! You are your own salesperson, so sell yourself to the best of your abilities. You are also marketing yourself, do so in a way that would make you want to hire yourself if you were the interviewer!
- Meditate before your interview to clear your mind. You can download the Calm or Headspace apps to help guide you through this.
- Listen to some upbeat music to get you pumped up and excited about your interview.
- Look at the interview as, “I get to do this interview” rather than, “I have to do this interview.” You were selected from many candidates to getto do this interview, so look at it as one step closer to landing the job and making it to the finish line.
- Tell yourself some uplifting mantras, read some inspirational quotes and be your own hype-man or hype-woman.
- Be true to yourself and as authentic as possible so that you can represent yourself in the best light.
1.) Prepare for Your Job Interview By Thoroughly Researching the Company
Investigate the company you are wanting to be a part of in advance and drop some facts about them during your interview. For example, “I know your company has been around for 25+ years and you have achieved ___________ and that aligns with my personal goals.”

Usually, there is a point in the interview when they will ask “Do you have any questions for me?” If you say “no” it doesn’t show you are very interested in the job. Recruiters want to know that you have the courage to ask them questions. You don’t have to ask all 5 questions but it is good to have some ready to pull out of your head so you don’t look like a deer in the headlights. You can even come with a notebook, take notes during the interview, have your questions already written down, or memorize them so you are ready to go. Here are a few examples of questions you can ask:
- Where do you envision the company five years from now?
- What is your favorite part about working here?
- What is most challenging about working here?
- Can you tell me more about the company’s goals and visions?
- How can I move up in the company?
