Madre Limpia Un Pez, No Sabe Lo Que Es En Realidad

No Era Su Imaginación

El sonido del cuchillo golpeando el suelo de la cocina resonó en toda la casa mientras ella daba un salto hacia atrás, horrorizada.

No podía creer lo que veían sus ojos y lo achacó a su imaginación. Pero cuando se acercó de nuevo y miró dentro para ver el destello, supo que no era su imaginación. Llamó a su marido y en cuestión de segundos, él estaba a su lado. 

Comida Fresca

Minni y Joel estaban felizmente casados y vivían en el campo. A los dos les gustaba la idea de trabajar por su comida en lugar de comprarla en los supermercados.

Les encantaba proveerse de alimentos frescos. Tenían un magnífico jardín lleno de frutas y verduras ecológicas. Cuando tenían ganas de comer pescado, iban a pescar al lago.

Tiempo En Familia 

Era su pasatiempo favorito, y ponía comida en su mesa, ¡lo cual era una gran ventaja! Era una gran oportunidad para pasar tiempo en familia con sus maravillosos y cariñosos hijos.

No sabían que la próxima vez que salieran a pescar, atraparían algo para lo que ninguno de ellos estaba preparado. 

Bowfin

En Estados Unidos hay un tipo de pez llamado Bowfin; es poco valorado por su sabor, que disgusta a muchos.  Pero con los conocimientos adecuados, se pueden cocinar para que tengan un sabor medio decente.

A Minni y Joel les encantaba experimentar con los alimentos que encontraban mientras vivían de la tierra, y eso les había enseñado algunas lecciones valiosas a la hora de cocinar correctamente el Bowfin.

Limpiar Y Preparar

Joel sonrió mientras sacaba el Bowfin del agua, miró por encima del hombro mientras hablaba con su familia: “¡Parece que hoy va a haber pastel de pescado y patatas al horno!”. 

Cuando volvieron a casa, colocaron el pescado en el fregadero, que era donde Minni lo limpiaría y prepararía para la cena. Es algo que ya había hecho infinidad de veces, pero a pesar de ello, nunca podría haber imaginado lo que encontraría dentro del pescado. 

Algo Extraño

Minni no disfrutaba limpiando el pescado. Era bastante horrible. Pero era el precio que tenía que pagar, y además era mejor que tener que comer comida comprada en la tienda. 

Cortó la cabeza y se preparó para limpiar las vísceras y las escamas del pescado. Pero antes de que pudiera hacerlo, notó algo extraño en el pez.

Un Bulto Anormal

Vio un bulto en el pescado. Tenía suficiente experiencia para saber que no era normal. ¿Pero qué podía ser?

Sabía que los peces comían todo tipo de cosas extrañas, así que decidió abrirlo. No podía creer lo que veían sus ojos cuando vio algo brillante en su interior.

¿Qué Encontró?

Se miró las manos desconcertada. No podía creer lo que tenía en sus manos. 

El colgante de ancla estaba unido a unos delicados eslabones de oro. Era un collar. Era increíble. ¿Cómo se las había arreglado el pez para comérselo? Pero entonces volvió a sentir algo extraño en el interior del pez. 

Hay Más

Parecía que el pececito tenía más cosas que ofrecer.

Sacó el resto de las vísceras y las recorrió con los dedos hasta encontrar de nuevo el bulto. Hundió los dedos y fue entonces cuando ocurrió algo aterrador. 

Asqueada Y Horrorizada 

Sintió que algo se movía. Gritó mientras saltaba hacia atrás. Estaba asqueada y horrorizada. 

El grito resonó en toda la casa e hizo que Joel corriera en su ayuda. Sus ojos se abrieron de par en par cuando vio la escena que tenía delante.

Ataque Cardíaco Repentino

El corazón de Mini se aceleró. Sus pulmones parecían no poder recuperarse. Hacía tiempo que no recibía una descarga así.

“¿Qué está pasando?”, preguntó su marido, mirando al pez. Minni se tranquilizó y extendió lentamente la mano. Señaló al pez. “¿Cómo es posible?”, gritó.

¡Se Mueve!

El largo trozo de carne se enroscaba como si fuera un pez vivo, dando vueltas en busca de aire.

Se estaba moviendo. La cabeza estaba en el fregadero y el resto de las partes del cuerpo en la tabla de cortar. El marido de Minni pinchó la carne y el aleteo se hizo más intenso. ¿Cómo era posible?

Especulaciones

Minni se preguntó si tendría algo que ver con lo que se escondía dentro del bulto. ¿Era lo que había dentro del bulto lo que hacía que el pez se moviera?

Antes de volver a tocar esa cosa, quería entender a qué se enfrentaba. Minni dejó en suspenso su búsqueda del tesoro y corrió hacia su teléfono.

Encontrar Respuestas

Mientras su marido filmaba el fenómeno, ella abrió el ordenador y recorrió Internet en busca de respuestas.

Se sintió aliviada cuando descubrió que el hecho de que los peces se muevan después de muertos es bastante común. Y la causa es un ingrediente de cocina muy común: la sal.

Células Y Músculos

Incluso después de que un pez muera, algunas células del cuerpo pueden seguir reaccionando a los estímulos. En este caso, fue el sodio.

La respuesta científica tenía un montón de ideas complicadas sobre los iones de sodio y potasio que reaccionan a la activación de las neuronas, así como a las señales eléctricas. Esta reacción en cadena puede hacer que los músculos se contraigan y se liberen durante un breve período de tiempo.

Nuevo Juguete

Minni soltó una risita de alivio mientras su marido jugaba con el pez. Pero no, sólo quedaba una pregunta: ¿qué más se escondía dentro del pez?

Cuando Minni volvió a acercarse al pez, su marido vio el collar y le preguntó por él. Cuando ella le describió lo sucedido, él se quedó sin palabras. Entonces sintió exactamente lo mismo que ella.

La Hora De La Verdad

Dio un paso atrás y le permitió continuar con su alocado descubrimiento. “¿Crees que hay más joyas ahí dentro?”, le preguntó. “No lo sé, pero supongo que lo averiguaremos”, respondió Minni.

Joel miró por encima de su hombro mientras ella retiraba el interior y una pequeña bola aparecía antes de ver otra y otra. “¿Qué…?” murmuró Minni.

Bolitas

Minni descubrió un puñado de pequeñas bolas brillantes. Ella y Joel tomaron una entre sus figuras para examinar lo que era. “¿Es una cuenta?”, preguntó Minni.

Joel entrecerraba los ojos, haciendo girar la diminuta bola entre su figura y su pulgar. Cuando la sostuvo a la luz, apenas podía creer lo que veían sus ojos.

¡19 PERLAS!

Con una realización impactante, Joel declaró que eran perlas. Perlas reales y puras. Minni se quedó boquiabierta. “¡Vaya! ¿Estás seguro?”. Agarró la perla y la frotó contra sus dientes.

Sus ojos se abrieron de par en par. “¡Seguro que son de verdad!”, exclamó. La frente de Minni se frunció en señal de confusión. ¿Cómo podía saberlo?

Si alguna vez necesitas diferenciar una perla auténtica de una falsa, la mejor manera de hacerlo es frotarla contra los dientes.

Una perla auténtica se sentirá arenosa contra tus dientes, casi como si estuvieras frotando papel de lija contra ellos. Una perla falsa o de imitación se sentirá suave. Si no estás seguro, lo más probable es que sea falsa, ya que una perla auténtica te rechinará los dientes. Pero, ¿cómo llegó al pescado?

A Fishing Fortune

Bowfish are known for not being the pickiest of eaters. In fact, they’ll eat anything that moves! This fish must have had a liking for shiny things after eating an oyster and mussel or two.

Fortunately, for the couple, the jewelry found in the fish was in pristine condition and the pearls, well! One of those could sell for $300 to $1500!

Expected Reactions

The couple uploaded their video of the moving fish and posted about their incredible find on social media.

It didn’t take long for comments to come pouring in. Most were shocked, and a few even accused them of faking the entire thing. Oh well, who can blame them! But two other users pointed out something interesting.

So Cool!

The moving of the limp body didn’t just happen to fish.

Frogs and squids could sometimes do the same thing. It didn’t mean that every fish that came out of the water would do this – or have hidden treasure inside. But it was still an amazing thing to witness. Nature was truly astounding! But did they sell their find?

Criticism

Joel and Minni faced a lot of criticism online at first for not trying to find the real owner of the gold necklace. But they tried to describe to their friends that it was impossible to find the real owner.

The necklace could have fallen anywhere in the water system around the area that the fish would have commuted around. And there was also another problem.

Not Over

There was no telling how long the necklace could have been living underwater before the fish grabbed it. For all anyone knew, it could have been years – or decades!

Now, one would think that this was the end of their amazing discovery. But over the next few weeks, something nagged at Minni – they had put some fish in the freezer as well. Would there be anything interesting in those as well?

Finding The Fillets

Minni might have felt foolish rummaging around in the freezer like a child on a treasure hunt. However, the previous discovery had already been amazing. So, why not have a peek?

She sliced open the vacuum-sealed pack, stuck the frozen block of fish into a bowl, and waited for them to defrost.

Seriously?

Joel stopped cutting the garden tomatoes he had picked for the afternoon’s salad. He looked over and raised an eyebrow. “You don’t actually think there’s more?”

Minni nudged him away. Her hands jittered with excitement.

Fingers Crossed

Thankfully, the fishy siblings didn’t do the disturbing death-dance like the other fillet.

She slid the knife along the belly and poked her fingers inside, hoping to feel something other than squishy guts.

Just Fish

Nothing. It was a normal fish, just like the hundreds they had caught before.

But there were four more to go and she pounced on them like a gambling addict with a pile of fresh scratch cards. Little did they know the mystery that awaited them.

5th Times The Charm

Third, nothing. Fourth, nothing.

But it was on the fifth fish that her knife hit something solid. Joel’s eyes went as wide as dinner plates when Minni pulled out another piece of gold – but this one wasn’t a necklace. It was a thick gold ring, like something a man would wear.

What Are The Chances?

“This isn’t happening,” Joel said.

Minni leaned against the counter. Her head was already dizzy to the point of pulling her to the floor. This wasn’t just a shiny new find. Because, as she looked closer, an astounding clue appeared.

A Solid Lead

With the necklace and pearls, there was no way of knowing who the treasures belonged to.

But as Minni wiped away the icky film, the inside revealed an engraving – two names and a date. This was the breakthrough they needed! The adventure wasn’t over.

Starting The Search

It might not have been much, but the new details were far more than what they had started with.

Joel pulled out his computer and frantically looked for wedding announcements around the date on the ring. Minni did the same – there was no way she could sit back and do nothing.

Not Giving Up

“Jimmy? Maybe James,” Minni muttered, her hands sailing over the keys in a caffeine-fueled blur.

The entire thing was like finding a needle in a hundred haystacks. It wasn’t until their 6th cup of coffee did something finally spark their hope again.

Could It Be?

“James and Madeline Jeffords!” Joel exclaimed. His excitement nearly knocked her out of her seat.

There it was, plain as day – this had to be the owner of the lost wedding band. Minni thanked the internet gods … they had a social media page.

Reaching Out

It was a stream of photos, mostly grandkids and silly jokes.

But there was no mention of a lost wedding band. Maybe that was because the couple had lost it so long ago? Minni’s hands shook with excitement as she typed a message to Madeline.

The Waiting Game

Every click of their kitchen clock was like agony.

They waited with bated breath to see those three little dots appear – a sign that someone was writing back. Every part of them hoped someone still bothered to look at the account.

An Answer!

Minutes turned into hours, and the moon rose high in the sky.

The kids slept soundly in their beds while Joel snored like a chainsaw in his Barcalounger. Minni’s head dipped towards the table over and over as she willed herself to stay awake. Finally, she heard the “ding” they had been longing for.

“Yes, we lost a wedding band. But that was years ago. Who is this?”

Minni squealed loudly, waking Joel up with such a start that his chair folded like a mousetrap from under him. Before they could move forward, both Minni and her husband had made one simple rule.

Making Sure

She introduced herself, mentioning that their family was fishing fanatics.

They had stumbled across the ring … but could the person or people on the other end describe it accurately? They weren’t about to accidentally give someone else’s wedding memento to a complete stranger.

Yes, It’s Them!

The dots appeared again, and the next message made Minni want to cry.

They described it perfectly – right down to the use of “Jimmy” instead of James. They had found the owner of the ring! But the best part was yet to come.

Road Trip

The family piled into their minivan and made the 3-hour trip north to where the couple was waiting. As they pulled into the driveway, Minni could feel the tears build.

An old man and woman stood on the porch, holding hands – their faces bright with excitement.

Lost Long Ago

It was an unbelievable series of events that had connected two families over many years and miles.

The couple had been taking a walk along a pier one day. Madeline wasn’t sure how, but a small pouch of jewelry had fallen out of her purse – things she had wanted to take to the jeweler to get cleaned. It must have been taken by the waves and washed away.

The Necklace Too!

Minni and Joel’s eyes turned wide as the couple showed them photos of the wedding bands … and a gold necklace with an anchor pendant.

Both sides couldn’t hold back the tears. It was fate … pure fate. But the old couple was about to do something extra-special.
