Questioning Everything

In the days leading up to what was supposed to be the happiest day of her life, Lexi began to question everything.

She didn’t feel like a beautiful bride as she searched every store in town for a dress that would fit, dodging the judging eyes and ignoring the remarks as best she could. But when they couldn’t go on a honeymoon or even have a baby because of her weight, she knew something had to change.

Lexi and Danny

Lexi and Danny had been best friends for more than 10 years when they decided to take their relationship to the next level.

But, ever since she was a child, Lexi had struggled with her weight. By the time she was an adult, she had tried just about every diet that promised to make the pounds melt off. And they did… for a while …

Weight Issues

Every time Lexi managed to stick to a diet and lose some weight, it always came right back. By the time she was 25, she weighed 392lb.

Although she tried not to let the extra weight get her down, it was starting to impact her quality of life. Thankfully she knew her worth, and that Danny would love her no matter what.

Her Soulmate

Danny Reed loved Lexi for who she was – he didn’t care about her weight and supported every decision she made. The couple had known each other for so long that they couldn’t imagine life without each other.

Theirs was the best kind of relationship – they were best friends and soulmates. But there was one problem.

Unhealthy Habits

While Danny supported and loved Lexi no matter what, he also had some bad habits. Like Lexi, he also had a sedentary lifestyle. He and Lexi didn’t go for walks on the beach or participate in anything that entailed exercise.

Instead, they would spend hours together, binge-watching television and eating unhealthy foods. Due to their bad habits, Danny was also overweight.

Spiraling Out Of Control

Danny and Lexi reinforced all their bad habits as a couple. Both of them were overweight – Danny was 280lb, and Lexi ballooned to 485lb.

Together, their unhealthy habits spiraled out of control. They ate out at restaurants or got takeout for all of their meals and indulged in all-you-can-eat buffets. But all the extra pounds they gained together were beginning to take a toll on their health.

Early Issues

The root of Lexi’s weight issues stemmed from her childhood. “Growing up, we never had a lot of money and my parents never cooked. Processed foods were always easier to purchase than healthy foods…”

And when she started dating Danny, things only got worse. Soon, they couldn’t do what other couples did – they couldn’t go on romantic getaways or go hiking, so they stayed at home. And so, the dangerous cycle continued.

A Positive Outlook

Although her weight stopped her from doing a lot of things, Lexi was happy with her life. She was popular, in a great relationship, and always had a positive attitude about everything.

But, as she gained even more weight, she started to realize that it was beginning to control her life. Deep down, she knew she’d have to make a change, but she wasn’t even sure how to begin. Then, something happened that changed everything.

Proposal

When Danny finally proposed, Lexi was over the moon. “He never saw me as my size, asked me to change, or made me feel as anything other than beautiful,” she wrote on Instagram.

Of course, she said “yes.” Lexi excitedly began to plan their wedding, but Danny’s proposal was about to open a whole new can of worms.

“Nothing Glamorous”

When Lexi began to look for the perfect wedding dress, she weighed 485lb. Finding a dress that would fit would prove to be extremely challenging. (https://www.banucciteam.com/)

Every day, Lexi would come home feeling close to tears. She shared her struggle on Instagram, writing that there was “nothing glamorous” about looking for a wedding dress in her size. It wasn’t long before it started to take an emotional toll on her.

Not Feeling Like A Blushing Bride

“Nobody knew how to make me feel like a bride, and not my size. Thank god I was strong enough to know my worth, and kept searching for my 34W dress even though I questioned if I would ever find one,” Lexi wrote.

Thankfully, she did find a dress eventually, but the couple’s problems were just beginning.

The Wedding

Lexi married her true love in a beautiful ceremony, but the wedding brought more questions about how Lexi and Danny’s life would be together.

People began to ask if they were planning to have children after tying the knot, but Lexi knew her weight would make carrying a baby dangerous. And wasn’t all the couple wouldn’t be able to do after they got married.

No Honeymoon

While the fact that Lexi falling pregnant could be a danger to her and the baby was one of the couple’s biggest worries, even dreams of accomplishing short-term goals – like going on a romantic honeymoon – were dashed.

Lexi had always wanted to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at the Universal Studios theme park in Orlando, but she was dismayed to find out she couldn’t even do that.

No Planes, No Rides

Not only was Lexi too heavy to go on any of the theme park rides, but she was also too big to fit in a plane seat.

So, if things continued like they had been going, the couple wouldn’t be able to have children or even go on a honeymoon out-of-state. Still, a year after they were married, they hadn’t committed to making the change.

A Resolution

Finally, on New Year’s Day in 2016, Lexi put her foot down. She resolved to make the necessary changes to her lifestyle so that her weight would stop limiting her life. At first, Danny wasn’t completely on board. Then, the couple made the bet that would change their lives.

Danny and Lexi made a deal that they would stick to a strict diet: “…no eating out, no soda, no alcohol, no cheat meals, and working out for 30 minutes five times a week.” And the transformation over just one year was phenomenal.
