Bride Regret Wedding Decision Because Of 98-Year-Old Grandma

She Said Yes

Tim had finally found the one girl he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

Sarah was amazing, smart, and a sweetheart, according to Tim, and so he did what any madly in-love man does. He asked her to marry him.

Sarah said yes because she always wanted to settle down and start a family. Little did Tim know what his life was about to look like because, deep down, she was hiding something he was never prepared for.

Meet The Family

Tim took Sarah home for the holidays to meet the rest of his family. Tim was an only son with three sisters.

Tim came from a large family, so he knew the importance of family and having everyone accept Sarah.

He was most excited about Sarah meeting Grandma Jill because she was his best friend. They spoke on a regular basis, and Grandma was thrilled that Tim had met such an amazing woman, or so they thought.

Welcome Home

Grandma Jill, along with the family, welcomed Sarah and embraced her with such warm hearts and joy.

They were all eager to meet the lady who had finally managed to make workaholic Tim slow down and want to settle down.

They thought she was sweet, beautiful, and very classy. Little did they know the monstrosity of a journey they were about to embark on with this new addition to the family.

Sarah’s Heartache

As happy and excited as everyone was to meet Sarah, everything just felt a bit overwhelming for her.

The truth is Sarah came from a very small family, and her grandparents had passed on while she was in high school, so to Sarah, the importance of family was not that big.

However, because she wanted to be in good grace with everyone, she embraced Grandma Jill and pretended to be thrilled to meet them. The fact is, she only had to play nice until the wedding.

Grandma’s Wish

Grandma Jill was so excited when she got the news that her only grandson was finally getting married.

She had been waiting for this moment since Tim was a boy because she felt like he would make a great husband one day.

She also could not wait to pass her family ring down to him, as it was given to her by her mother. She had lost her husband four years before, so hearing this gave her that nostalgic feeling she yearned for. Also, Grandma Jill loved weddings wholeheartedly.

Wedding Preparations

Some marriage therapists say that the actual marriage begins with the wedding preparations. If the couple can’t seem to agree on sentimental values and things, then they might be doomed.

Tim and Sarah had no problem with that, simply because Tim said yes to everything Sarah wanted, no matter how lavish or bizarre her requests were.

Tim wanted to make his future bride and wife the happiest girl in the world, no matter the cost.

Sarah’s Dream Wedding

Sarah wanted the whole fairy tale wedding theme. Go big or go home was her motto.

She wanted the day to be perfect as well, from the venue and decor to how everyone looked.

Sarah had been dreaming about this day since she was a young girl and knew exactly how she wanted everything to look. She even picked the tuxedo she wanted Tim to wear, and most people saw this as controlling; however, Tim thought it was thoughtful.

Wedding Fever

Sarah had so many demands. Some of them were even outrageous.

It was one thing to dress your husband, but it was absurd to ask the parents of the groom to wear certain clothes. Tim’s older sister was starting to get concerned that Sarah was turning into a ‘Bridezilla.’

However, Tim explained that Sarah was just built differently and liked things to be organized in a certain manner, and was very passionate about things close to her heart. Tim’s sister was not impressed and even warned Tim.

Royal Sarah’s Guest List

Tim was very popular at his office, but he did not have a lot of friends like Sarah, so the majority of his guest list was occupied by family members and cousins.

Tim understood the value of family being in attendance to bear witness to his matrimonial ceremony, so his only request was that every family member be invited.

This made Sarah annoyed because she wanted more friends and less family at ‘her’ wedding. She just wanted it to be one huge party.

No Kids

Sarah insisted that no children were allowed at her wedding because she wanted a huge party with adults dancing and an open bar.

Tim was upset that he had to uninvite all his friends’ kids and all his underage cousins – who had always been a huge part of his life.

Then, Sarah made another demand that made Tim’s jaw drop.

Bridezilla Nightmare

As they were finalizing the guest list, Sarah asked for the one thing that changed the trajectory of things. She told Tim that she felt that Grandma Jill should skip the reception and only attend the ceremony.

That way, she can go home and rest while they carry on celebrating and having a good time.

Tim’s face dropped, he couldn’t believe the words that just came out of Sarah’s mouth, and it felt like he was in a bad dream.

Grandma’s Best Interest

Sarah explained that the reason she said that was because she was only concerned about Grandma Jill’s comfort. She wanted the reception to be a big party where she could get hammered and go crazy.

And the last thing she wanted was to be worried about how loud the music would be for Grandma.

She said she was not prepared to take care of her at her reception. She wanted the day to be fun and Grandma-free. She just didn’t want to deal with any “Grandma drama.”

Cross Roads

Tim found Sarah’s explanation outrageous and finally put his foot down. Grandma was not even that old and could take care of herself! She still enjoyed a glass of whiskey now and then and also knew her way around the dance floor.

Tim even went as far as to ask Grandma Jill how she felt about the loud music, and she couldn’t wait to dance with Tim.

So once again, Tim felt confused by this odd new behavior. Things just didn’t feel right.

Love and War

Sarah was not budging on this request. If she had it her way, the entire elderly family clan would attend the ceremony only and go to sleep after.

Sarah wanted to let loose and get drunk with her girls and felt like Grandma was going to kill her vibe and be a giant inconvenience.

Sarah really felt strongly about this, and poor Grandma felt like she was in the middle of a war she had not intended to start or engage in.

Taking It To Reddit

Sarah was so sure she was the one in the right that she took her story to Reddit’s AITA thread.

This Reddit thread is for people to post about their personal conflicts and get judged if they are in the wrong by other objective users.

Sarah felt so entitled that she obviously expected everyone to side with her on the issue, but she was in for a big shock.

The Controversial Post

“We’ve agreed not to have kids at our wedding, as we want the reception to be a huge party for our adult friends and family. Dancing, loud music, and an open bar,” Sarah wrote.

“However, for precisely the same reasons that we don’t want kids there, I don’t want his elderly grandmother at our wedding either.”

“I Am The Bride”

“She and he both insist that she will be fine and wants to go to the party. But I just know it will inevitably lead to us dealing with her and taking care of her, and I just want to get drunk and let loose with my friends,” Sarah’s post continued.

“She’s now really upset and won’t talk to me, and my fiancé is also angry. I think I am within my right to make this request. I am the bride, after all.”

But Sarah didn’t expect the responses she got.

Lambasted Online

Sarah’s post stirred up a storm on Reddit. Within no time, it had garnered more than two thousand comments.

The people who read it were absolutely disgusted that this bridezilla wanted to ban her fiance’s grandmother from her own grandson’s wedding!

The outraged replies poured in, and they just kept coming.

An Immature, Self-Centered Bride

“You really need to grow up yourself, or there will be at least one child at that ceremony. Not only is your ageism gross and your self-centered focus on partying gauche and boorish, but the fact that you have completely dismissed a very reasonable request from the supposed love of your life …

You could literally hold the reception in a tent made from a red flag that size,” another user wrote.

“I hope you realize you are not ready to be married. You should cancel the ceremony, cut your fiancée free of you, and spend a few more years getting your fill of the party scene because you are not yet capable of prioritizing the needs and wishes of others over your own desires.”

Basic Consideration

“Most old folks these days just want to be included. We so often forget they are still people too, and more often than not, the elderly go for weeks without any sort of interaction or communication with another person,” one user wrote.

“The (baby) bride needs to be less tone-deaf and more considerate. One day, she may be that uninvited grandma.”

What about Sarah? How do you think these comments made her feel? Would she take them to heart?

Sarah turned to Reddit because she wanted people to agree with her. But she got the complete opposite, and that infuriated the bride-to-be tremendously.

How could these people not understand where she was coming from?

How could they think it was shellfish of her to want to celebrate her marriage? But she didn’t see the bigger picture, and that would ultimately lead to her downfall.

She Wanted Validation

All Sarah wanted was validation.

She wanted the majority to take her side so she could prove to Tim and his grandma that she was right.

She needed the Redditors to make her wish come true, but instead, they started raining on her parade. Could it possibly get any worse than that? Apparently, it could.

She Believed She Was Right

Sarah was adamant about getting her way, and she didn’t care about the feelings of others, including her groom.

She forgot that he had given her everything she wanted up until that point.

He made sure she got the wedding of her dreams even though he didn’t agree with certain things. But she looked past all that and wanted more. Would she end up getting her way?

Feeling Misunderstood

Sarah felt like she was being misunderstood.

She felt that her groom should support her decision even if it wasn’t in his favor.

She never once considered that she was asking for too much. And felt that Tim should see things the same way because he knew what kind of person she was. Sadly, he had never seen this side of her before, and he wasn’t going to nurture it.

It Was Her Big Day!

That was what infuriated Sarah the most. It was supposed to be her big day. It was supposed to be the wedding of her dreams. But her groom was the one who was ruining it.

But what about the other people involved in this mess?

What about Grandma and Tim? Did they get no say about what was going to happen on their big day? If that was what Sarah thought, she was making a big mistake.

Broken-Hearted Grandma

Grandma hated the thought of the couple fighting over her. And she hated how sad this was making Tim. All she ever dreamed about was seeing him get married, but now that reality seemed less possible.

Tim had bent over backward for Sarah, so he could not understand why she wouldn’t compromise on this one thing and allow him this one request.

This entire fight left a bitter taste in his mouth and made him finally see the red flags waving right in front of him. But what would he do about it?

Tim decided it was time to have a serious conversation with Sarah. He couldn’t ignore the growing rift between them and the strain it was causing on their relationship and their families. As they sat down to talk, tensions ran high.

Tim expressed his disappointment and confusion about Sarah’s sudden change in attitude.

He reminded her of the compromises he had made for the wedding, the support he had given her dreams, and the effort he had put into making her happy. But Sarah was unwilling to back down.

“I Have Every Right”

“This is my wedding, and I have every right to say who I want there and who I don’t want there. Don’t you get it, Tim? This is the one day where I can do what I want, and you are questioning it? Don’t you love me? I thought you said you wanted to make me happy,” Sarah said.

To Tim, this felt like a guilt trip.

The Ultimatum

As the conversation escalated, Sarah issued an ultimatum. Either Grandma Jill attends only the ceremony, or Sarah would reconsider the entire wedding. Tim couldn’t believe what he was hearing. It was as if Sarah was holding their relationship hostage for the sake of her vision of the perfect day.

Frustrated and hurt, Tim found himself at a crossroads. He loved Sarah, but he couldn’t fathom abandoning his family, especially his beloved Grandma Jill, for the sake of a wedding.

He needed time to think and reflect on what truly mattered to him.

A Big Role In His Life

His Grandma Jill played a big role in his life.

Not only was she his grandmother but she helped raise him when his mother went back to work and could no longer be on maternity leave.

She nurtured him and helped make him the man that he is today. He couldn’t just leave her out of the most important day of his life. He owed it to her. He wanted her to be his special guest.

Everything Was About Her

It wasn’t something he even wanted to think about, and what’s more, all Sarah was talking about was “me and I,” as she referred to herself and never spoke in terms of them and their relationship.

Everything was about her, and it made Tim very concerned.

This was not the woman that he fell in love with.

Something To Think About

Seeing Sarah’s behavioral switch really got Tim thinking about her and the relationship they were in.

He was starting to doubt everything he thought he knew, and that wasn’t sitting too well with him.

What more would he uncover? Could he handle any more than that? Was he even willing to proceed now that he knew all these things?

How Would He Handle The Situation?

Tim was unsure of what to do or feel. All he wanted from this wedding was to have his grandma there to celebrate it with him. He didn’t really care about anything else.

But now, even that was being taken away from him, and he honestly didn’t know if he was willing to give it up.

If Sarah had asked for anything else, she would’ve gotten it. But this…

So Much Confusion

At that point, Tim was utterly confused. Why couldn’t Sarah just hear him out? Why couldn’t she be the one making a compromise for once?

Was having his grandma at the reception really such a big deal?

Those were just some of the thoughts that were passing through his mind at the time. But they were the thoughts that had the biggest impact on him.

A Lot To Consider

They are what had him considering his options.

But they also had him reconsidering his choice. Tim was starting to wonder if he had made the right decision when he asked Sarah to marry him.

He was starting to wonder what he would be going through once they got married. Would he always be giving up what he wanted to make her happy?

This Wasn’t It

That thought didn’t sit too well with Tim. During all the time they had been together, Sarah never acted so entitled and selfish.

What he was seeing now was a completely different person.

And that had him wondering who she really was. Was Sarah the kind young woman he had fallen in love with? Or was she this monster he had been seeing recently? Was he willing to risk his future to find out?

I Do?!

The night before the wedding, as everyone gathered around the dinner table, Tim stood up and made a not-so-shocking announcement.

He decided to ‘pause’ the wedding until he and Sarah worked things out. Tim finally took off his rose-tinted glasses.

But Tim’s parents were upset about all the food, the deposits they had put down, and the planning that would be going to waste. Then, Grandma Jill made a suggestion.

There Would Be A Wedding

Because the venue, flowers, decorators, and caterers had all already been booked and paid for, Grandma Jill suggested that Tim’s parents take everything over from Sarah and Tim and renew their own vows instead.

She even offered to pay them back for the entire thing!

Tim’s mom was ecstatic – they hadn’t been able to afford a proper wedding all those years ago.

An Unexpected Turn Of Events

The room fell silent as Grandma Jill’s words hung in the air. Tim’s parents exchanged surprised glances, and Tim himself was taken aback.

It was an unexpected turn of events, but Grandma Jill seemed determined to salvage the situation.

With a mix of gratitude and hesitation, Tim’s parents agreed to Grandma Jill’s proposal. However, Sarah was not at all happy about the change.

The tension in the room began to dissipate as plans were quickly rearranged. Tim’s mom, still in shock, couldn’t believe her luck.

It was as if the stars had aligned to give her the wedding she had always dreamed of.

Sarah glared at everyone as they were thrilled for Tim’s parents. She was not going to accept this.

Not Over

Her dream wedding was slipping away, and resentment boiled within her. Tim, torn between his love for Sarah and his loyalty to Grandma Jill, tried to find a compromise.

In the end, the decision was made. Tim’s parents would take over the wedding, and the ceremony would go on without a hitch.

But as the ceremony approached, it became clear that the drama was far from over.

Throwing Tantrums

Sarah, unable to accept defeat, continued to sulk and throw tantrums. She made snide comments about how the wedding was no longer about her and accused Tim of betraying her vision.

Tim, however, stood firm in his decision, realizing that he couldn’t let Sarah’s selfish demands dictate the course of their lives.

It was then that Sarah would say something truly unacceptable.

I Knew She Was Trouble!

“I knew your grandmother was trouble. She was out to ruin my wedding from the get-go. My instinct was right in banning her from the reception. Look what she does at people’s weddings!” Sarah yelled in front of shocked guests.

Tim just shook his head. He couldn’t believe that this was the person that he was supposed to marry.

He needed to make some tough decisions.

Couple’s Therapy

Although Tim was still angry about the way Sarah had behaved, he wasn’t ready to give up just yet.

He gave her an ultimatum: they could go to couples counseling to try and work things out. Or they could part ways.

Sarah, sensing that he meant it, agreed to go to counseling with him. But, since they were still together, Grandma Jill managed to get her revenge.

Renewing Their Vows

Tim’s parents had a beautiful ceremony at Sarah’s dream venue.

They were served the food Sarah had insisted on, cut her cake, and even re-invited all of Tim’s extended family – including the children and older relatives.

Sarah could do nothing but sit and watch as she tried not to let her jealousy show. But Grandma Jill knew she was getting exactly what she deserved.

Life Of The Party

At the reception, Grandma Jill delivered a heartwarming speech full of humor and wisdom to Tim’s parents.

It was undoubtedly the best speech that night.

And, to Sarah’s annoyed surprise, she turned out to be the life of the party. She organized games for the kids before hitting the dance floor – and then she out-danced everyone there!

Reconsidering The Relationship

Tim was hurt that Sarah had been so self-centered and had refused to consider what mattered to him, but he hoped that she’d realize the error of her ways.

However, his friends and family told him that the way she had behaved was a huge red flag.

If she didn’t care about his family now, were they really even compatible?

Were They Right?

Tim couldn’t help but wonder if his friends and family members might’ve been right.

In his mind, Sarah’s emotions were like a switch, and it could flip at any given moment.

Was he willing to risk having her lash out again? Was he willing to lose everyone he held dear in order to keep her happy? He simply wasn’t sure.

Taking The Risk

After some careful consideration, Tim decided to try the couple’s therapy and see how it goes. If she showed any sign of not being that person again, he’d take the risk.

If she didn’t, he’d terminate the relationship.

Deep down, he still had hope for a future with her. But only time would tell if that was a possibility or not.

A Few Sessions In

The first few sessions of couples therapy were hard.

Tim and Sarah seemed to knock heads at every corner, and the therapist often had to come between them.

But as time passed, so did their sessions, and before long, things took a drastic turn. Was this what Tim had been waiting for? Or was it just another ruse?

Showing Remorse

After about seven full sessions, Sarah started showing remorse. She admitted that it was wrong for her to act the way she did and that she should’ve put Tim’s feelings before her own.

But there seemed to be a problem with what she was saying.

As she spoke, it sounded like she was just repeating what Tim had told the therapist.

Was It Real?

Even though Sarah was telling Tim exactly what he wanted to hear, he couldn’t help but wonder if she actually meant it or not.

He couldn’t help but wonder if his family and friends were right.

Was she just doing this because she didn’t want to lose the relationship? If that were the case, would that behavior return?

Bridezilla Syndrome

Unfortunately, Sarah’s behavior before her wedding is not uncommon.

The “Bridezilla” phenomenon is well-documented among brides-to-be, and there’s a reason for it.

The emotional pressure of starting a new life and planning a wedding can make even the most mild-mannered woman become a monster overnight. This is usually due to the unrealistic expectations they have.

Pre-Wedding Anxiety

Brides usually feel anxious about the things they will have to manage in married life.

Some of those things include moving in with their husbands, sharing a home, and taking on more responsibilities.

And on top of all these pressure points, a bride also has to deal with the expectations of her parents and in-laws as well as their demands. Was this the case with Sarah?

True Colors

Sarah’s in-laws made absolutely no demands about her wedding.

And Tim only wanted the people he loved – specifically his grandmother – to share in his big day with him. It was not an unreasonable request.

Sarah had tried to ban Grandma from the wedding because she selfishly felt that Grandma Jill would become a burden and ruin her special day. Do you think her feelings were justified?

A Learning Experience

As the therapy sessions continued, Tim learned more about the root of Sarah’s behavior. It became apparent that she had deep-seated fears and anxieties about the responsibilities that came with marriage.

The pressure to meet societal expectations, combined with her own unresolved issues, had caused her to act out in an attempt to regain a sense of control.

Tim sympathized with her struggles but questioned whether they could build a healthy future together.

Rebuilding Trust

The therapy sessions forced both Tim and Sarah to confront uncomfortable truths about themselves and their relationship. Tim, still hurt by Sarah’s previous actions, struggled to rebuild trust.

Sarah, on the other hand, genuinely wanted to change and make amends. She began opening up about her fears and insecurities, seeking understanding and reassurance from Tim.

But trust, once broken, isn’t easily mended.

Making Difficult Choices

As the couple navigated through the rocky terrain of therapy, Tim faced the difficult choice of either holding onto the past or moving forward.

He questioned whether the love he felt for Sarah was enough to overcome the deep scars left by her Bridezilla behavior.

The decision weighed heavily on Tim’s shoulders, as he had to balance his feelings for Sarah with the desire for a stable and respectful relationship.

The Breaking Point

After several months of therapy, Tim reached a breaking point. Despite Sarah’s efforts to change, he couldn’t shake the lingering doubts and concerns about their compatibility.

The trust that was shattered during the wedding debacle seemed irreparable.

In a tearful conversation, Tim and Sarah acknowledged the reality of their situation. They came to the painful realization that their differences were too profound to overcome. Tim, while still caring for Sarah, couldn’t ignore the fundamental values that had been revealed through their tumultuous journey.

The End of the Road

With heavy hearts, Tim and Sarah decided to end their relationship. It was a difficult and emotional process, filled with sorrow and regret.

As they went their separate ways, they both knew that it was the right decision for their individual growth and happiness.

Tim took the lessons from this experience and used them to shape his future relationships. He learned the importance of communication, compromise, and shared values. While the end of his relationship with Sarah was painful, it became a stepping stone toward a more authentic and fulfilling life.
