Dad Had No Idea Why She Was Expelled, Now She’s Being Tried As An Adult

How Could They Get Away With This?

Mike looked at his daughter Gracie and could see the sadness in her eyes. He wanted to comfort her so badly and tell her everything would be alright, but things were far from alright. And things only got worse when she pulled a note out of her bag. 

Mike read the note, and reality hit him like a ton of bricks. When he finished reading, he held his daughter close in his arms, but he could feel a fire in his stomach. He knew for a fact he wasn’t going to let them get away with this. 

A Devoted Dad 

Mike Morris was a devoted dad to his five-year-old daughter, Gracie. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to ensure his daughter was happy and healthy. 

But this devoted dad had no idea what was coming to him and his daughter. He had just enrolled her in a new school, and they weren’t as tolerant as he thought they would be. What happened on Gracie’s first day of school?

Single Parent

Mike had been a single parent ever since Gracie was born five years ago. Throughout the years, he focused on putting all of his time and energy into looking after Gracie. She was his world.

But when Gracie started a new term at a brand new school, Mike had no idea the drama and horror that would unfold.

Starting A New School

With summer vacation officially over, it was time for Gracie to start her new year at a new school. Like most five-year-olds, she was super excited, as was Mike, who was enjoying watching his daughter embark on a new chapter in her life.

But Mike never could have imagined what would happen on her first day. 

Waving Her Goodbye

Mike dropped Gracie off at her new school and waved her goodbye. As he watched her skip into the school, his heart gushed. She sure was his everything. And he was sure that she would grow into a bright, beautiful young woman. (bushnellmotorsportspark.com)

Little did he know what was going to happen. When she came home that day, his world got turned upside down.

Off To Work 

While Gracie was at school, Mike headed off to work. He was a chef at his local restaurant, and he loved his job. 

But once the clock struck 3 pm, it was time for him to clock off and pick up his little girl. He had no idea what he was about to find. 

He Didn’t Know What Was In Store For Him 

Mike drove along the highway to Gracie’s school, singing out loud when his favorite song was on the radio. He couldn’t wait to hear about what she had gotten up to on her first day. And he was sure that she was ready to talk his ear off.

But Mike wasn’t prepared for what he would find at the school gates. 

What Was Wrong With Her?

He pulled up to the school, and straight away, Mike saw his little girl. But as she walked over to the car, Mike realized she had a sad expression on her face. “What’s up, darling?” he asked. But Gracie shrugged it off. 

When they got home, Mike sat Gracie down and asked what was wrong and if anything had happened on her first day. What she told him shook his world.

Pointing And Staring  

As Gracie opened up about her first day at school, Mike could see the sadness in her eyes. “People at school were pointing and staring at my hair,” Gracie said, avoiding eye contact with her father. 

Mike’s heart ached at seeing his daughter upset. “Was it the other kids?” Mike asked. “No,” Gracie replied, “it was the teachers.”  

His Blood Boiled 

Straight away, Mike felt anger boil inside his body. Why would the teachers point out her hair? What was their problem? Mike knew for now he couldn’t do anything. “Okay, sweetie, I’ll talk to your teacher tomorrow,” he told Gracie. 

What Mike didn’t know was that the situation would escalate further the very next day.

Things Were About To Get Worse 

Throughout the evening, Mike kept thinking about what his daughter Gracie had told him earlier on. Just as he was about to tuck Gracie into her bed, she muttered something about a letter. She then asked her dad what “expelled” meant.  

Mike was astonished yet worried to hear his daughter ask this. What was going on? He felt fire in his lungs. But things only got worse when Gracie pulled a note out of her bag. 

Reading The Note

Mike picked up the note from Gracie’s hands and started reading it. But with each word he read, reality hit him. And he started seeing red. 

When he finished reading, his breath started to quicken, and he could feel his blood boil. It seemed the school had done something to Gracie without discussing any of it with him.

Expelled  

Gracie was going to be expelled. And it was not for the reasons you would think. It was all because of her hair. This was some kind of joke, right? Mike wasn’t going to stand for this. 

He grabbed his phone, armed with fire in his stomach. He called the school. Things were about to get heated.

A Heated Conversation  

What started as a barely controlled rant to the principal ended in a shouting match between Mike and the principal. The principal insisted Gracie’s hair violated school policy, and unfortunately, that was the end of the matter.

But the principal had a proposition for the angered father. And it left Mike even more furious. What did the man have to say that would enrage the single dad even more?

With Each Word

With each word that left the principal’s mouth, Mike became more enraged than he was before. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

Did this man really have the audacity to tell him that his child’s natural hair wasn’t good enough? How could they do such a thing? Didn’t they understand what the consequences of their actions would be? They would find out soon enough.

He Thought He Misunderstood

When the principal told Mike what his proposition was, he just looked at the man. Disbelief shrouded his mind, and he could barely comprehend what he was hearing.

He thought he might have misunderstood what he heard since his mind was shrouded with rage. But the principal assured him that there was no mistake. And his word was law.

The Man Made Himself Clear

Seeing that Mike was in a state of disbelief, the principal recounted his words. He explained the proposition once more, but that did nothing to change the father’s mood.

Mike simply couldn’t understand what it was that the school had a problem with. And he wasn’t going to change anything until he had a logical explanation for what was happening. Did such a thing even exist?

No Other Option

The principal then told Mike that he didn’t have much of a choice in the matter. He could either accept the proposition. Or he could accept the expulsion.

But neither of those options sat well with Mike. He could see that this school was discriminating against his daughter. And he wanted to find out why that was happening.

The End Of His Limits

After about half an hour of walking into a brick wall, Mike had reached his limits. Fury was burning through every single inch of his being, and he couldn’t handle much more of it.

He knew he needed to get out of the situation before it was too late. But he couldn’t will himself to leave? And what was it about the principal’s preposition that upset him so much?

A Proposition 

Either Gracie would have to cut her hair, or she would be kicked out permanently. As soon as he heard this, Mike felt anger bubble inside. How could they propose such a thing? 

It was like pulling teeth to get any sort of answer as to what exactly the violation was, especially with his phone out and already recording. He would have never imagined the answer coming out of anyone’s mouth.

Gathering Evidence

All Mike was trying to do was gather evidence. But it seemed like the principal had outsmarted him. However, the principal was not ready for this father.

The fact that he was trying to avoid talk of the violation told Mike everything he needed to know. There was more to this than they were letting on, and he would uncover the truth.

This Was Too Much

Mike knew that this discussion was just scratching the surface of whatever it was that was going on. But he wasn’t ready to let go just yet.

The school had gone too far. They had pushed the father to his breaking point. This was too much for him to handle. But he wasn’t going to back down without a fight.

One Way Or Another

One way or another, Mike would get to the bottom of this. Whether he let his rage rule or he went to a higher authority, the truth would be uncovered.

He would find out what the problem really was, and when he did, he would deal with the situation accordingly. But he had no idea what he would end up hearing.

Pressing The Matter

Seeing that being nice was getting him nowhere, Mike started pushing a little harder. He demanded to know what the violation really was and said that he wouldn’t be leaving without an answer.

The principal tried to change the subject, but Mike only pushed harder. And before long, the principal was backed into a corner.

Uncomfortable Situation

The principal started getting uncomfortable, and Mike knew it was only a matter of time before the man gave in.

So he kept pushing. He got more aggravated each time he spoke, and before long, the principal cracked under the pressure. But Mike wasn’t prepared for what he heard. What was the real reason behind all this trouble?

Frizzy Instead Of Smooth

While the other kids had “smooth and neat” hair, Gracie’s was “frizzy and all over the place.”

He stood in front of the weasel-looking administrator, jaw unhinged and eyes wide with utter shock. It took all his self-control not to punch the man. “You do realize my daughter was BORN with that hair?!” But that didn’t end the argument.

Just Lazy

“Flat irons cost less than twenty dollars,” the principal fired back. “There’s no excuse to be lazy with your girl’s hair.”

That was it. Mike had to leave. If he didn’t, someone would end up in the hospital. He might have shut the door on the smug-looking principal, but that didn’t mean the battle was over.

Sleepless Night

That night, Mike couldn’t sleep. His mind was all over the place, and he couldn’t find the strength to calm his nerves. He was incredibly upset about what his daughter was being put through, and he wanted it to come to an abrupt end.

But what could he, as a father, do to put an end to this madness?

What To Do?

Mike kept thinking about what he could do to get even and restore his daughter’s name. But his thoughts weren’t the most legal at times.

At that point, his rage was ruling, and it wanted him to do the unthinkable. But Mike was a reasonable man. He wouldn’t let anger get the best of him, would he?

So Many Ideas

Mike had so many ideas, and the majority of them weren’t exactly thought out. They were defying the laws or morals, and he couldn’t afford to take any risks at that point in time.

If he wanted to come up with a good plan, he would need to put his anger aside and think about the problem with a clear mind. Would he be able to do that?

Driven By Rage

 

Mike was fully aware of what was happening to him at that point in time, and he hated it. He was never the type of man that would resort to violence. But he couldn’t just walk away, either.

His daughter meant the world to him, and he would do whatever it took to protect her. He just needed to find the right way to do it.

Calming His Thoughts

So the next morning, Mike went to the outskirts of the city and took a lengthy walk through the woods. This not only helped him to clear his mind, but it also helped him to come up with a brilliant plan.

When Mike got home later that day, he put his plan into motion. But what was the single father up to?

Taking Things Public 

Mike’s attack would be two-fold. 

First, he went on to social media and posted the note, recording of the conversation and the fact there had been no warnings before the threat of expulsion (which was already a disproportionate move). Added on top of that was the “preposition” of either cutting it or making Gracie’s hair look like the other kids in her class – ones from completely different backgrounds. How would the netizens react?

Getting Help

The second was to call a lawyer.

If he couldn’t get past the vile school administrator, he would smash through the school walls with the one thing they would utterly hate – a negative spotlight. It didn’t take long for the story to spread like wildfire. And when it did, the school nearly came crumbling down. But would that be enough?

World-Wide Support

The comments were everything he had hoped for.

“Your girl’s natural curls are beautiful. Never cut them!” one user said. “Did the guy seriously not hear the words coming out of his mouth? He basically said he wanted your girl to look like the white kids.” But what was the school’s response to the flood of worldwide viewers?

PR Roundabout 

Mike scoffed at the first round of PR drivel that appeared on the school’s social media. He couldn’t believe that they had so little remorse.

Things like “We don’t condone discrimination” or “We are looking into things” came flooding in, but there was never anything for Mike directly – that was until the lawyer formally launched a lawsuit. 

Sweeping It Under The Rug

The two groups sat on either side of the long table – one side fuming, the other being extra careful with their words. 

They offered an apology and a “warm welcome” for Gracie to re-enter school with no threat of expulsion.  But that was it. Nothing else. They didn’t even offer a solution to the problem they had created. And their apology didn’t carry a hint of sincerity.

Not Good Enough

His lawyer said exactly what Mike was thinking – only in a far more professional tone with no profanity.

She said there was no school infraction, and the expulsion was in serious violation of school policy, but more than anything, the entire situation was targeted at a girl with different hair … and skin. There would only be one thing that would even start to fix the problem.

Give Him The Boot

Mike wanted the principal to get fired and for the teacher to be suspended with a single warning.

It was either that or he would take them to court and clean them out of every penny they had  – and then donate the money to anything revolving around girls like Gracie and the unnecessary struggles they had to endure. 

Finally Happy

In the end, Mike got what he wanted. The sniveling man left without saying a word.

Gracie got to go back to school. And being put in a different class with a new teacher made all the difference. She was finally having fun at school! However, he would look into other schools … Just in case.
