Un Hombre Intenta Pescar Un Pez Enorme Y Pone En Peligro A Toda La Tripulación

Casi Rota

Su caña se doblaba casi por la mitad: sabía que la pieza era enorme. Con la adrenalina corriendo por sus venas, separó los pies y empezó a recogerlo lentamente. 

Cuando se dio cuenta de que el peso de la bestia podía hacer zozobrar la barca, ya era demasiado tarde. Cuando empezó a emerger del agua, todo el mundo empezó a gritar. 

Australia

No hay mejor continente para disfrutar de las maravillas de la naturaleza que Australia. Un hombre llamado Trent de With tenía la suerte de vivir en una hermosa zona del Territorio del Norte, en una ciudad llamada Katherine. 

Él y su familia regentaban una tienda local de aparejos, Rod & Rifle TackleWorld, y todos eran ávidos pescadores. A Trent le encantaba navegar por el río Victoria y pescar. Pero nunca esperó esto.

Vacaciones

Dio la casualidad de que Trent tenía unos días libres en octubre, justo antes del fin de semana de Halloween. Pensó que sería el momento ideal para una escapadita entre semana con sus compañeros. ¿Y por qué no ir a pescar?

Las fronteras del Territorio del Norte se habían abierto de nuevo a los visitantes, lo que significaba que los turistas no tardarían en llegar. Demasiada gente en el agua traería problemas.

Esperando

No podía esperar a la miniescapada. Nunca le había gustado la época de Halloween: Era un aburrimiento ir a tiendas llenas de niños, comprar toneladas de caramelos y buscar por todas partes inspiración para los disfraces. Además, era una americanada.

Trent prefería relajarse en un barco, meciéndose suavemente al ritmo de las mareas, esperando pacientemente un bocado con una cerveza helada en la mano. ¿Qué podría salir mal?

Un Tiempo Perfecto

El día de la salida, el tiempo era perfecto y las aguas del río Victoria también. Trent y sus compañeros salieron a unas tres horas al oeste de Katherine, a Timber Creek, un conocido lugar de pesca, su favorito. 

No tardaron en conducir su clásico 200, disfrutando de la tranquilidad y preguntándose qué pescarían. Trent esperaba, a lo sumo, hacerse con algunas truchas… no luchar contra una bestia temible. 

No Picaban

Fue un gran día, excepto por el hecho de que los peces no picaban… lo cual era muy extraño. Trent tuvo algunas falsas alarmas y, en un par de ocasiones, se emocionó para finalmente no pescar nada, lo que divirtió mucho a sus compañeros. 

Se burlaban del “pescador número uno de Australia”, que llevaba “pescando desde su infancia”, pero que ni siquiera era capaz de capturar “ni una quisquilla”. Poco sabían, algo estaba a punto de borrar las sonrisas de todas sus caras.

Una Gran Captura

De repente, de la nada, Trent sintió un tirón revelador en su caña. Se levantó de un salto, haciendo girar el cabrestante furiosamente. Con su preciada caña doblándose hasta casi tocar el agua, su presa intentó nadar hacia las profundidades. 

Tirando con todas sus fuerzas, pensó que acababa de pescar el pez más grande de su vida. Pero no era un pez.

Luchando

Los brazos de Trent estaban haciendo fuerza y empezaba a respirar con dificultad. No sabía lo que estaba atrapado en el anzuelo, pero estaba decidido a traerlo. Y no estaba dispuesto a perder su equipo.

Como un tira y afloja, era Trent contra lo que fuera que hubiera en el agua turbia. Todavía estaba demasiado profundo para ver qué era exactamente contra qué estaba luchando. ¿Qué criatura tenía tanto poder para doblar su caña casi en dos?

Lleno De Adrenalina

La adrenalina recorrió el cuerpo de Trent mientras separaba los pies para hacer palanca y enganchaba la caña al bote. Luego, con los antebrazos ardiendo bajo el peso de la bestia, empezó a atraerla lentamente… cada vez más cerca de la barca. 

De repente, el bote empezó a inclinarse y la criatura empezó a salir. Y fue entonces cuando Trent se dio cuenta de que había cometido un gran error.

Una Forma

Una forma oscura apareció justo debajo de la superficie del agua, y la mandíbula de Trent se desencajó. Al darse cuenta de que la horrible silueta de metro y medio no era un pez, se esforzó por desenganchar 

La barca se balanceaba y sacudía el agua con cada sacudida del monstruo al otro lado del sedal. Se negaba a soltar el cebo.

Cortar El Cabo

“¡Corta el cabo!”, gritó uno de sus amigos mientras veían cómo la barca se llenaba de agua. Pero Trent se negó obstinadamente. 

No iba a perder su preciado anzuelo y estaba dispuesto a luchar por él. Refiriéndose a su anzuelo, bromeó nervioso: “¿Alguien quiere recuperarlo por mí?”. Pero nadie sonreía. 

Criatura Gigante

Trent casi perdió pie cuando la piel curtida de la bestia rompió la superficie del agua. Entonces, de repente, se abrió. Por fin pudieron ver lo que había al final de la línea y todos se quedaron atónitos. 

Un cocodrilo gigante saltaba fuera del agua con el señuelo en su boca de dientes afilados. ¿Cómo iba a enfrentarse a esto?

No Lo Soltó

El aterrador cocodrilo volvió a abrirse paso, negándose a soltar el cebo. Trent siguió tirando de la caña y tratando de tomar la delantera. 

A medida que el monstruo se acercaba al barco, se inclinó de nuevo, inclinando a Trent peligrosamente cerca de sus mandíbulas chasqueantes. Fue entonces cuando se dio cuenta de algo aterrador: estaba intentando hacer volcar la barca.

Al ver cómo la enorme criatura se adentraba en las profundidades, todos suspiraron aliviados. Con palmadas en la espalda para Trent, todos echaron un vistazo al señuelo dañado. Trent era consciente de que los pescadores a veces enganchaban cocodrilos accidentalmente, ¡pero éste parecía querer comerse el señuelo! 

Por suerte, la caña y el carrete de Trent eran de buena calidad. Incluso cuando se pesca una gran trucha, uno no quiere que su equipo falle.

Trent publicó un vídeo de su aventura en la página de Facebook de Rod & Rifle TackleWorld Katherine, y recibió miles de visitas en cuestión de días. 

Explicó que es más común de lo que se piensa que los australianos pesquen un cocodrilo en lugar de un pez. ¡Solo que no esperaba que le pasara a él!

Volverse Viral

Ni que decir tiene que mucha gente quedó impresionada con las habilidades de Trent para luchar contra el cocodrilo. Admitió que se había enfrentado a muchos peces grandes en el pasado, pero éste los había superado a todos con diferencia. 

Enfrentarse a un cocodrilo agresivo dispuesto a luchar por su vida es extremadamente peligroso. Así que no es de extrañar que el vídeo se hiciera rápidamente viral.

“Estábamos pescando llega esta bestia parda. Conseguimos recuperar el señuelo. Aunque ya no va tan recto como antes”, subtituló Trent el popular vídeo. 

Los que vieron el vídeo quedaron especialmente impresionados con sus herramientas, señalando lo fuertes que parecían ser mientras luchaba contra el cocodrilo.

Un Montaje Impresionante

“Qué impresionante”, escribió un usuario. “¿Puedo preguntar cuál era la configuración de la caña, el carrete, el sedal y el bajo de línea? 

Si ese combo puede sacar un salado de ese tamaño, ¡puede sacar cualquier cosa!”. Otro usuario comentó la negativa de Trent a soltar el señuelo: “¡Es una locura! Yo habría soltado la caña si viera esta cosa en mi anzuelo”.

Millones De Visitas

El vídeo ha sido visto más de un millón de veces y ha recibido casi 4.000 comentarios. Atrajo la atención de mucha gente. 

El usuario de Facebook Gavin Nichols destacó los peligros de semejante hazaña: “¿Todo el mundo va a ignorar el hecho de que ese cocodrilo podría haberles sacado rodando de la barca y haberse comido al tío?”. Después, el vídeo llegó a YouTube.

“This guy is nuts,” one YouTube user wrote. “I would have thrown my pole in the lake and ran as soon as it surfaced.”

His Boat Was Shaking

His little boat shook and moved left and right when he dropped that humongous animal on the wooden deck. That was undoubtedly the biggest piece of fish he had ever caught in his lifetime.

He admired it for a minute. It had been a struggle, and he had even been close to risking his life. But when he looked inside the fish’s mouth, he was struck with awe and horror. Now he understood it all.

Eugene Cronley

The protagonist in this story is a man named Eugene Cronley, an aficionado fisherman from Brandon, Mississippi. He had been catfishing for years. Fishing was always a hobby of his, but after retiring, he devoted himself to one specific type of catch.

He enjoyed fishing pieces that he could cook and sell to restaurants or fishmongers around the area. But there was something about catching a catfish that made the challenge a lot more stimulating.

They’re considered one of the most difficult pieces to catch. They’re fierce, they’re big, they’re heavy, and they can become very aggressive and dangerous if they feel threatened.

For this reason, many sports fishermen dream of being able to catch the biggest, heaviest and meanest catfish around. It’s a challenge to them and a chance to show themselves what they’re capable of. But sometimes, things can get ugly.

Catfish have spines and stingers on fins on top of and on the underside of their bodies; and sometimes, these can be charged with poison.

It’s not unusual for fishermen to get stung by these; the venom can cause a very annoying rash, infections, and lasting damage to the skin. And that’s not all: it gets worse.

It Can Be Dangerous

Sometimes, trying to compete and overcome the fierceness of this mean beast that roams around the depths of our lakes can be dangerous.

If the catfish is too strong, heavy, or big, it can drag down into the water, whoever is trying to take it out. Some come out badly injured from their attempt of taming and catching one of these. Some have even died.

They Can Get Aggressive

Catfishing can be especially dangerous if one goes alone; the risk of getting dragged down and even drowning is even higher if you have no one to help you in case the catch is too big.

Eugene Cronley was a reserved man who liked to pursue his hobby in solitude. But that day, he would regret not having brought someone else with him.

He Faced A Beast

He had never had any problem or difficult time catfishing until then. He knew the waters of the Mississippi like the palm of his hand. And even though one can find wild turtles and alligators there, he wasn’t scared.

But when he faced the titanic catfish that would become the catch of his life, it made him think that maybe he had made a mistake. He should never have ventured into those waters alone.

It Took Him A While

It took a while before the beast that would test Eugene’s ability as a fisherman came around. He had already spent two hours sitting in his boat, calmly roaming around the Mississippi.

He had caught a trout. That was nice, but it wasn’t what he was looking for. However, sometimes you must be careful what you wish for.

Caught!

After a couple of hours, he felt it: some big fish had bit the bait. Eugene’s boat shook left and right. By the look of things, it was a heavy and strong one.

Eugene pulled his rod, tensing all his muscles and using all his strength to get that beast out of the water. It took him almost one hour; but eventually, he managed to bring that humongous animal out of the water and drop it on his boat. That’s when he noticed something.

Something In Its Mouth

The catfish had something inside its mouth, aside from Eugene’s hook. He couldn’t tell clearly what it was. The fish was still alive and kept its mouth half-closed.

Eugene grabbed its head and carefully tried to open the catfish’s mouth fully, trying not to get bit. And what he saw left him bewildered to no end.

Alligator Foot

The catfish had an alligator foot inside its mouth, with the claws and everything! It looked like it had been ripped off recently; the wound was still fresh.

Maybe he had found it somewhere deep in the river. But Eugene thought of the chance that it might have even bitten off an alligator’s foot by itself. Could that even be possible?

Freak Of Nature

It didn’t seem very likely, but who knows? The catfish was bigger and stronger than anything Eugene had ever seen before. It had almost dragged him down into the water.

It looked more like a monster than like something you would expect to find in a river. And when he informed the local authorities about the freak of nature he had just caught, he was in for another surprise.

World Record

Its weight was 131 pounds, which is almost 60 kilograms; its size was 16.6 inches long and 41 inches of girth, or 1.4 and 1.04 meters. That made the world record for the biggest catfish ever seen!

That made Eugene feel elated. It was the greatest accomplishment as a fisherman that he could have ever dreamed of. However, it didn’t come easy.

Proud

“We had to untie the boat and float down the river,” Cronley told the media. “I couldn’t move him. I’d pull on him and take in a foot of line and he’d pull and take 10 ft. I just sat there like I was hung up.”

“It is truly a fish of a lifetime,” he said, adding, “He is a monster.” He truly has reasons to feel proud of his catch. But was the catfish big and strong enough to really rip off an alligator’s foot?
