Dan suddenly felt anxiety grip his chest. “It was just a small speech to get across a message that everybody had to hear.” He stuttered back at the woman.

“Nonsense, from what I hear, it rallied the crowd and swayed them in your favor.” She said with a piercing gaze. “No, No. It was just an open discussion at the end. I didn’t try to convince anyone.” He stammered back.

But he could tell that the woman wasn’t convinced. What repercussions was he going to face for speaking out and making sure his opinion was heard?

An Opportunity

“Well, regardless of if that’s true or not, I’d like to give you an opportunity. You couldn’t help but speak up at the kindergarten, and that got a lot of attention.” She said.

Dan’s pulse started rising. She sounded like a part of the mafia, telling him to leave the state and never look back. But what did she really want?

Bravery

Her demeanor changed in a flash. “Bravery is something we at the school council admire. You really showed us that you’re an amazing father, and we want you to do so much more than just give speeches.”

Dan had no idea what she meant, but it sounded like a good thing, whatever it was. Then she explained everything.

Dan sat in the kitchen for a while, thinking it over. But then he heard from behind him, “Daddy, you have to take it!” It was Kayla rooting for him.

He smiled and realized she must have been eavesdropping on the conversation he was having with the representative. He couldn’t blame her when a stranger came into their house.

Dan patted his daughter on the head and told her he’d do it for her and every other child at the kindergarten. He had made the right decision.

It wasn’t something he did lightly. He knew that the way people looked at him would change once he was on the school board. But he would be helping the kindergarten.
