Sick and Twisted: the Best Farrelly Brothers Movies of All Time

If what you look for in a cinematic experience is an engaging and thought-provoking piece of art that will make you reflect on just what your time in this world really means, then the Farrelly Brothers probably aren’t your cup of tea. However, if you enjoy watching the “frank and beans” getting stuck in zippers, multiple personality disorder, and guys that yell “Our pets heads are falling off!” then we have just the list for you. These are the top five movies made by the writing/directing brother duo, Peter and Bobby Farrelly.

5 Stuck On You (2003)

This movie makes the cut for managing to be unbelievably ridiculous in every way, though it certainly isn’t their best film. It isn’t their smartest film either, and it definitely isn’t their funniest film. But it’s a film that stars Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear as conjoined twin brothers that literally share a liver and have their simple lives as fry cooks turned upside down when they move to Los Angeles so Greg Kinnear can pursue an acting career, and well, you’ve got to at least respect the audacity of that. The guys have got balls.

Walt: “She’ll be back. Where else is she gonna find a guy like you?”
Bob: “I don’t know. Chernobyl?”

4 Me, Myself and Irene (2000)

This movie wasn’t exactly what people were expecting when Jim Carrey and the Farrelly Brothers reunited, but it’s a lot funnier than most people give it credit for. Sure, it’s dark and weird and creepy and uncomfortable… wait, I forgot what the point was going to be. Oh! Right, it’s still funny. Look, any time you get to see Jim Carrey play a man with two warring identities, it’s at least worth giving a chance.

Favorite Quote:
Hank – “So, what’s your tale, Mother Goose? Where ya from?”
Irene – “Oh, all over.”
Hank – “Omnipresence. I like that in a woman.”

3 Kingpin (1996)

Definitely the most underrated of the Farrelly Brothers’ flicks, Kingpin somehow flew under the radar despite genius performances from Woody Harrelson, Randy Quaid, and Bill Murray. To sum up, it features a one-handed former professional bowler (Harrelson) who coaches a clueless Amish bowling prodigy (Quaid) and eventually has to face off against his hated rival, Big Ernie McCracken (Murray), a comb-over sporting scumbag who heads a foundation for children from fatherless homes in order to bang their moms. In short, it’s awesome.

Favorite Quote:
Ishmael – “Whatcha doin’, Mr. Munson?
Roy – “Flossin’.”
Ishmael – “Flossin? Where the hell did I get ‘Munson’?”
Roy – “The name’s Munson, What I’m doin’ is flossin’.”

2 There’s Something About Mary (1998)

For all of the amazing lines that Dumb & Dumber had, There’s Something About Mary came close and offered some of the funniest physical comedy you’ll ever see. Ben Stiller got the crap beat out of him by an interrogator and then had to fight a tiny but speed-addled dog, while Matt Dillon took a punch in the throat from a man-child and dished out a devastating stiff arm at a special needs camp flag football game. And we can’t leave without mentioning the “gel” in Cameron Diaz’s hair. This is easily the Farrelly Brothers’ raunchiest film, and it’s a very, very close second place.

Favorite Quote:
Pat Healy – “What the hell is Brett Favre doing here?”

1 Dumb & Dumber (1994)

Sometimes your first effort is your best, and in the case of the Farrelly Brothers first time directing a feature, Dumb & Dumber was just that. Jim Carrey was just exploding onto the scene after Ace Ventura and the Mask, Jeff Daniels was unexpectedly hilarious, and the genius writing of Peter and Bobby Farrelly came through to create one of the most quotable movies ever made. Line for line, Dumb & Dumber can give any buddy comedy a run for the title of funniest ever.

Favorite Quote:
Harry – “I expected the Rocky Mountains to be a little rockier than this.”
Lloyd- “I was thinking the same thing. That John Denver’s full of s#!t, man.”

Well, that about does it. That’s just about all the hilarious sickness you can cram into five movies. And if you really think that Shallow Hal belongs on this list, then you’re just the worst person in the world. Shallow Hal is terrible. And so are you. For shame.
