Put your imaginary bibs on and get ready for the culinary creations that are perfect for Peanut Butter Lovers Day.
5.) Voodoo Doughnut
Once upon a time, a little place called Voodoo Doughnut was a well kept Oregonian secret. Luckily for us and a small handful of other states, the donuts of Voodoo have blown up. Trust us, even that is an understatement — there is no such thing as a “quick” visit, as the lines can wrap around stores throughout the day. The bright pink, eclectic and punk-rock-decorated brick and mortar store has spread its wings, landing in Denver, Orlando, Austin and most recently Los Angeles.
Voodoo Doughnut is only a matter of years away from world domination. Why? The shop is infamous for creating the yummiest, calorie-dense, sweet-toothed donuts. Yes, that means peanut butter lovers will absolutely find something they can indulge in.
Like banana with your PB? Try the Memphis Mafia. The fried dough is dusted with cinnamon with banana chunks and then slathered in glaze, chocolate, chocolate chips, and, yes, peanut butter. Holy cow, Batman. For the faint of heart or those who enjoy the simpler things in life, check out the School Daze “PB&J”. It’s a raspberry filled donut glazed with peanut butter and peanuts for that delectable crunch.
4.) Prime and Proper
We all know there is usually one person in every group that enjoys the finer things. Heck, maybe you’re the bougie one in the group. If so, don’t lower your standards on this most glorious of all peanut butter days. It’s okay to be selective about where you choose to satiate your PB cravings.
If this sounds like you, a simple PB&J will just not do it. You’ll want to avoid the countless shops that sell the basic PB staple and head over to Prime and Proper in Detroit. The name alone says it all and you being there says you fancy, huh?
The Peanut Butter Pavé is to die for. Its ingredients include peanut butter gianduja (Nutella’s richer cousin infused with peanut butter), caramel, peanut brittle and dark chocolate glaze. What’s not to love about that? It’s a dessert so loved, locals pay a visit to Prime and Proper just for a taste of cake.
Are you a burger devotee and peanut butter lover? Whitmans in New York saves you the stress of choosing between the two. The PB&B is the meeting of these two fan favorites. What is a PB&B anyway? It’s a no-brainer here: it stands for peanut butter and beef, as in beef short rib. We’ll wait for you to collect your jaw from the floor. The burger also includes applewood smoked bacon and it’s
potato bun is smeared with (you guessed it) peanut butter!
Some might say this burger makes no sense but that’s not you at all. You’re a free thinker who knows pushing the boundaries can lead to extraordinary results. Visit Whitmans in New York for a burger that’s ahead of its time.
2.) South Philadelphia Tap Room
This little number looks like a standard (yet mouth-watering) peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Except that’s not really correct. South Philadelphia Tap Room’s signature dessert has been tweaked to perfection, so much so that it garnered the attention of none other than Guy Fieri. We’re telling you. This sandwich is famous. And we know if Guy is into it our taste buds will be, too.
So what makes the Fried PB&J better than any old other sammich? The locally made bread is coated in french toast batter. The seasonings here include cinnamon, a ton of sugar, heavy cream, whole milk, and black pepper. The inside is generously filled with creamy PB&J. If you like crunchy versus creamy don’t you fret. The bread is then coated in frosted flakes and deep fried in enough butter to make you blush.
One bite into this bad boy and you’ll know this ain’t no ordinary PB&J.
1.) The Peanut Butter Bar
You know it’s going to be our number one Peanut Butter Lovers Day choice when the name and essentially every item sold contain peanut butter (or can be drizzled with it). Ladies and gents, we present you with a dream come true and a place that has PB on tap: Peanut Butter Bar. Its called the first ever PB-centric establishment in Australia but we think it may be the first in the world.
Beside the fact that ninety percent of its items revolve around ooey-gooey peanut goodness, Peanut Butter Bar’s mission is another reason so many people have already flocked to it. The company “stands for indulgent wellness” and specializes in healthy food with the option to go crazy and have a cheat day.
Visit the Australian bar for all the goodies. They have peanut butter chocolate pancakes completely covered in PB and syrup and served with a scoop of Gelato (because why not?). Try their Cheat Day Peanut Butter Cheesecake for something sweeter and creamier. Or do some major calorie damage with a specialty cake that isn’t shy with PB toppings. We know we’re drooling at the sight of it!
