Yes, acting can involve strenuous 14 days on set for a couple of months at a time before you take several months off to do absolutely nothing. And sure the paparazzi follows you around and harasses you, but maybe you’d be less noticeable if you weren’t driving a car that cost more than the average American’s house.
In the end, for whatever difficulties they’re forced to deal with, the highest paid leading men in Hollywood likely still feel pretty okay about their stations in life.
5 Dwayne Johnson
Do you smell what the Rock is cooking? It’s a hearty, money and barley stew. Dwayne Johnson has had a movie in the box office top 10 for more than 10 weeks already in 2013, and made himself $46 million over the past year behind films like Fast & Furious 6 and G.I. Joe: Retaliation. He may not be earning any Oscar nominations any time soon, unless they come up with a new category for “Achievement in Guns and Bad Ass-ery,” but the Rock is bench-pressing all the way to the bank.
4 Mark Wahlberg
Bet you didn’t see this coming when Mr. Wahlberg was serving as the valiant leader of the Funky Bunch. With his music career long behind him though, Wahlberg is now one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood, and thanks largely to his friendship with a filthy, talking teddy bear, one of the richest. Ted was a massive surprise hit, netting $500 million and helping make Marky Mark $52 million for himself over the last year.
3 Hugh Jackman
He might be best known for having adamantium claws and a serious rage issue in the X-Men movies, but last year Wolverine made a killing mostly on his song and dance. Between his turn as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables, which netted nearly $300 million, and his high demand on Broadway, Jackman made a pretty penny to the tune of $55 million. And with Marvel’s The Wolverine set to debut in July, the wallet is only getting fatter for Hugh Jackman.
2 Channing Tatum
So, turns out Channing Tatum is more than just a pretty… everything. The star of 21 Jump Street took home $60 million over the last year, due in large part to his genius decision to self-finance the movie Magic Mike alongside director Steven Soderbergh. Tatum made a killing when the movie hit it big at the box office, and is likely turning it into even more cash with a Broadway show, a theme bar and possibly a sequel. Literally, that thing he’s shaking is a huge money-maker.
1 Robert Downey, Jr.
It’s a damn good thing Robert Downey, Jr. is clean and sober, because the bank he’s making these days could buy enough hookers and blow to kill a small army. Thanks mostly to his involvement in Iron Man 3 and The Avengers, the actor made a cool $75 million dollars over the last year, making him the highest paid actor in Hollywood. His two Marvel films made more than $1 billion each on the worldwide market, helping Downey come that much closer to actually being Tony Stark-rich.
