He thought she was the one. He was sure that she would become the mother of his children and the woman he would grow old with until they got gray hair. They had made plans, and the future was looking bright for the couple.
But then it happened. The betrayal of his life came from the one he loved the most. He couldn’t think straight for days until it became clear what he must do: get his revenge.
Love And Betrayal
The following story was shared on Reddit by the user DJ_Duke_of_spook, who would be called Darrell for clarity purposes.
It’s a story of strong love, deep betrayal, and calculated vengeance. This woman was the most important thing in the world for Darrell. She was also the one who shattered his heart into a thousand pieces. Little did she know that the man who was once beside her, no matter what, would become her downfall.
They were about to celebrate their second anniversary. Like many people today, they had met on a dating app. None of them were looking for anything serious at first, but they both fell in love with each other.
They shared the same interests and principles and even laughed at the same jokes. They even had great chemistry in the bedroom. They were the happiest couple in the world, and nothing could predict what would come.
In the first few months, they were in Heaven. Darrell was a bachelor most of his life, so the whole thing felt surreal. He couldn’t believe what was happening. Things were almost too good to be true.
But they were that good. Laura was a lovely lady and also kind, compassionate, and supportive. He was the dream woman for Darrell. One year into the relationship, Darrell couldn’t wait anymore and asked her the question of their lifetime.
Everything Is Temporary
“Why did it take so long for me to come to you?. He was still trying to process what was happening. He couldn’t believe his luck. He had no clue that no matter how good things were, they could still end.
The relationship started to slowly decline in both intensity and feelings of love. Darrell was lost. He was unable to process what was happening to him. What did he do wrong?
Laura seemed to slowly fall into a deep depression. She barely ate or left the house and spent all day in bed. Darrell saw it like any other challenge couples must go through. After all those years of single life, Darrell was ready to learn what caring for another person looked like. So he did his best to care for Laura.
Things didn’t turn out the way he expected. Laura got colder and colder and began to snap at him. Darrell still believed that was what love was about, so he stuck with her through the worst. Would things get better, though?
Not Good Enough
It only got worse. It didn’t take long before Laura started to point out all the perceived flaws she saw in Darrell. His cologne was suddenly too much, his cooking too fatty, his inability to open up was still present, and the list kept going.
Darrell was at a loss. He didn’t know how to react. He tried to change everything Laura didn’t like about him, but it wasn’t enough. It was never enough. New things always popped up out of nowhere.
The Midnight Call
One day, the worst happened. Laura had left for a two-week trip. He didn’t receive any sign of life for days – no calls or texts. Darrell was starting to suspect something was wrong, but all he could do was wait.
After a while, he suddenly received a call. He picked up; it was Laura. She told him cold-heartedly that things were not working anymore, and she had already started dating another guy. The other man was a friend she told him before not to worry about. Laura ended the call by telling Darrell to move out of the house. He was left speechless.
Numb With Pain
As soon as he hung up, his mind fell into deep darkness. Everything was black. Darrell was numb: he couldn’t feel anything anymore. He sat down and didn’t move for hours.
But when he came out of that state, he didn’t cry, and he didn’t wallow in sadness or think about the lost time. He could only think about one thing: how to get revenge. And it didn’t take him long before he came out with the perfect plan.
Darrell’s Path Of Vengeance
Darrell owned several small battery-powered speakers that lasted forever. They could be programmed to emit certain sounds at a set frequency. He took them all and spread them around the house.
Almost every nook of the house had one tiny speaker hidden in it. Darrell left some behind the fridge, one in the bathroom, some behind the radiator, and so on. He chose what the speakers would play, programmed them, packed his things, and left the house. He wouldn’t hear anything of Laura until a few months later.
Now you may be wondering what kind of noises did he program the speakers to emit. He chose the most creepy, unsettling stuff he could think of. In his own words:
“Children laughing, a “dying breath” as they called it, a whistle, scratching noises, some other ones I can’t remember, but you get the idea. It was so unpredictable it was near impossible for someone to just figure it out.” Months after the breakup, he got some news.
It had been hard, but Darrell had moved on. He was living in a new apartment, he had taken up some of his old hobbies again, and he was spending time with his friends.
Among them was one that was also friends with Laura. One day, Darrell was hanging out with him and others, and the topic came up of one of them wanting to prank his flatmates. Darrell brought up the speakers; instantly, this caused a reaction in his friend.
He started smiling as Darrell was talking about the speakers, and by the time he was done, he had a huge grin on his face. Then he asked, “You put those in Laura’s place, didn’t you?”
Darrell admitted it, and his friend started laughing hysterically. And after composing himself again, he told Darrell a story. This is how Darrell recounted it:
Vengeance In Full Effect
“Turns out her new boyfriend had only lasted a few months and had left telling her that he couldn’t handle whatever was going on with them and their mental states.”
“Turns out they had both heard things for a while, and sometimes only one would hear them, which gave the illusion that something really messed with them was going on in their heads at different times.”
He Got The Last Laugh
“They couldn’t figure it out, and eventually, he wanted out completely. He ended up believing he had been infected with some brain worm the government was putting in vaccines or something like that.”
So, in the end, Darrell got the last laugh. What do you think about his vengeance? Do you think it was a good way to move on, or was it petty and unnecessary?
