John no podía apartar los ojos de las fotos. No podía creer que no lo hubiera visto antes.

Tal vez Juan tenía razón.

Juan señaló que sólo Juan se parecía a sus padres y no él. Pero no podía ser. Esas cosas no ocurren. Sólo pasaban en las películas, o eso pensaba Juan.

Aceptó

Juan y Juan decidieron dejarlo estar. Ni siquiera sabían si lo que estaban especulando era cierto, y no querían molestar a sus padres con preguntas.

Juraron no volver a hablar de ello. Se dieron el apretón de manos especial que aprendieron de niños y dieron por zanjado el asunto.

Poco sabían que volvería a atormentarles de nuevo.

Alguien Conocido

Pasarían dos años antes de que los hermanos volvieran a ser el centro de atención. Su amiga Amy vería a alguien conocido en otra universidad.

Había estado visitando a su primo en la Universidad de Xavier cuando vio a alguien familiar caminando por uno de los pasillos.

As Amy was lying in bed that evening, her phone buzzed erratically. She had just settled down with a book to unwind from her busy day.

When she saw who it was, she smiled. It was her cousin and she sent the photos of her classmate.

This was it. Amy clicked on the photos and they were perfect. It was just what she needed to convince John.

The Reveal

Amy couldn’t wait to see John. She finally had the proof he had asked for. She waited for him outside on a bench.

When John approached her, she could see he was hesitant to see the photos.

She handed him her phone. John was speechless, he couldn’t believe it. He was looking at a carbon copy of himself.

John was amazed. How could this be? Who was this guy that looked exactly like him? He needed answers.

He thanked Amy and asked her to send the pictures to his phone. It was time to do some research of his own.

Since the brothers shared a dorm room, it was hard for John to keep something like this from Jim.

He knew Jim was always asking questions and if he found out about what he was researching, it would break his heart.

John decided to take some time during the day to work in the library away from the prying eyes of his brother.

Operation Investigation

After one of his classes, John quickly made his way to the library. This was one of the days that he had some time off and he decided to use it to work on his secret project.

Why were the hallways so long, he thought. He needed to sneak away quickly before Jim accosted him.

He was almost there, he could see the library and then he heard his name. He stopped dead in his tracks.

It was Jim. He knew he couldn’t get away from him. They were not only brothers but twins. Sometimes, one knew what the other was thinking.

John and Jim had made up their own special form of communication when they were young. They loved to see people’s faces when they spoke their own language.

Their parents were always amazed. This was one of the times when John wished his brother was not in his mind.

Jim came running down the hallway to catch up to him. John had to think. What would his excuse be? What would he tell Jim?

Just as John opened his mouth to speak, Amy was standing in front of them. She was staring intensely at both of them.

It was then that Amy said something amazing. “Hey John, we’re late for our study session in the library, let’s go.

John couldn’t believe that Amy had saved him like that. He owed her his life.

The Search Begins

John told Jim he had to go and would see him in the dorm room later that evening.

It was time to figure out what was going on.

Amy accompanied him to the library. He didn’t know where to start. He typed in their names and surnames, followed by their date of birth and the name of the hospital on the pc. He did not expect the information he received.

A Tedious Process

John looked through all the newspapers in archives from the year they were born.

It was a long tedious process but he was determined to get to the bottom of it.

They were scrolling through when John finally came across the newspaper that had the correct month and year of their birth. He quickly went to the birth section and then his blood ran cold.

Nothing Out Of The Ordinary

It was right there. Their names, and date of birth with a picture of their parents in the hospital.

The proof was all there.

Nothing out of the ordinary. Everything was printed in black and white as he had expected. He showed Amy and she too saw the evidence in front of them. But she still wasn’t convinced.

No Mystery

Amy knew there had to be another explanation. John saw the photos of the guy and now the birth records were saying a completely different story.

Maybe there wasn’t anything to it at all. It was just a lookalike. It happens all the time, she thought.

It was time to bury the mystery so that everyone could get on with their lives. Or so she thought.

Giving Up

John decided to give up and go back to his dorm. There was no mystery.

Their lives were completely normal and he was not going to get Jim all worked up about nothing.

He called Jim and asked if he wanted to relax and watch a movie with him that night. But Jim had other plans. John’s world would soon be rocked again.

Home Alone

When he arrived at the dorm room, it was empty.

The place smelled like cologne and it meant only one thing, Jim went out partying.

There was a note saying not to wait up and John ordered pizza, switched on a movie, and settled in for the night. However, it would be a night he would never forget.

Party Time

Jim met some friends at a frat party downtown.

He had been working so hard over the past few weeks, he needed to have some fun.

The party venue was packed and he walked to the kitchen to grab a drink before going outside to the pool area. When he went outside, he saw someone unexpected.

A Familiar Face

Amy was there. He didn’t know she was the party type. He thought she was more like John who studies hard and doesn’t really do parties.

He walked up to her to say hi. They talked for a moment and Jim asked if she and John managed to get their studies done in the library.

Just as Jim put his drink down, someone walked by on the other side of the pool.

Look Twice

The guy was laughing and having a good time. It couldn’t be, Jim thought.

It was a school night, he would never go out, let alone to a wild frat party.

He walked over but then the guy walked the other way with his friends. Jim thought it was strange, but he could’ve sworn that he had just seen his brother, John.

Goodnight, Sleep Tight

He must be having a good time, Jim thought. Then he continued chatting with his friends. It was 2 am when Jim finally made his way to the dorm room. He was exhausted.

As he opened the door, he saw John watching a movie. “Hey man, guess you left before me. Glad you had a good time. I’m gonna get in, ‘night.” 

John was confused by what Jim was saying. Maybe he had too much to drink. But then he thought, there must be one other explanation for his brother’s ramblings.

Meet And Greet

The next day, he arranged to meet with Amy again. He was determined to get to the bottom of this mystery once and for all.

Amy was a trustworthy friend so he asked her to accompany him to her cousin’s college.

When they arrived, John could feel his heart racing. He was going to meet this guy, and he had no idea what to say to him.

Where Could He Be

Amy asked her cousin if she had seen her classmate today, and when her cousin said no, John felt a bit of anxiety hit him.

He didn’t want to delay this any further. He needed to see this guy now.

They searched the campus grounds high and low but didn’t find him. Then, just as they were about to leave, Amy spotted him sitting on the grass reading a textbook.

As they approached him, he didn’t look up. He kept reading. John thought it was something he would do

Then suddenly, he looked up straight into John’s eyes.

It was a strange moment. He felt a weird connection between them, like they had known each other their whole lives. Danny got up, and the only thing he did was hug John.
