Have you ever been skydiving? It’s a thrill that is guaranteed to get your heart racing and hairs on the back of your neck standing up. But for many professional skydivers, simply jumping out of a plane can get a bit boring. It’s likely the equivalent of getting into your car to go for a drive.
Professional skydiver Konstantin Petrijcuk has been jumping out of planes for 10 years. He now had his sights set on something a little more extreme which became, “I’d love to throw a car out of an airplane”. He decided to combine his love for skydiving with something many of us take for granted, driving. This, he figured, could be done by loading a car onto a plane and filing it with friends. At altitude, they’d be hucked out of the airplane, but this time, they’d get to take a leisurely ride first.
His dream became reality with help of professional skydiver/stunt coordinator Steve Curtis. The rowdy crew traveled to Arizona’s Area 51 to complete the stunt. As luck would have it, they threw not only one but two cars out of the plane.
This is an extremely dangerous stunt because the 120MPH winds make it extremely unpredictable. Luckily, although there were some close calls, all in all, it was a safe and successful mission. “It was like riding a roller coaster on an invisible track!”
