The main difference between American and British English is vocabulary. There are hundreds of everyday British words Americans just won’t understand. For example, “being gobsmacked” means shocked or lost for words. Or “going to play some footy” means going to play soccer. Although we speak the same language, there are many British words Americans have never heard of.
