Have you ever been scared to find a terrifying animal in your backyard?

Depending on where they live, some people might be terrified to find a bear, alligator, or coyote in their backyard. Although it’s not impossible to find a wild animal, you’re more likely to spot these common backyard animals.

Read on to learn about these backyard animals you’re likely to spot in your backyard.

Snakes

Although we are more comfortable thinking snakes can inhabit deserts and jungles far away from us, the reality is that you can encounter one in your backyard.

In the United States, there are about 22 types of venomous snakes. The last thing you want is to have one of these guys in your backyard. Having snakes in your backyard is so dangerous because they can be challenging to spot.

To prevent snakes from calling your backyard their home, you must eliminate as many hiding stops as possible. Start by removing excess rubble that might serve as a nest, keep your grass trimmed, and secure your fences.

Birds

Unlike snakes, birds are backyard animals you might want to see in your backyard. Some of the most common birds you might find in your backyard are American goldfinches, house finches, house sparrows, and European starlings.

If you want to attract more birds to your backyard, you should make your backyard more inviting by designating a safe corner for them.

To attract more birds, you should ensure you have a variety of feeders available to attract different species of birds. Make sure you also get a bluebird house to provide shelter, clean water, and various types of bird seeds.

Mice

Your backyard can be the perfect home for mice to nest and reproduce. However, they’re one of the last small animals you want to live in your backyard.

Mice can contaminate your backyard leaving feces and urine behind and exposing your family to harmful bacteria. If you let them get comfortable in your backyard, they can eventually make their way inside your home.

To keep mice out of your backyard, you must trim any excess undergrowth and block any holes that might provide access to your backyard.

Lizards

Lizards are another pretty common animal you can find in your backyard. Unless you live on Komodo Island, lizards are pretty harmless.

You can find lizards soaking in the sun in bushes or sticking to the walls of your house.

Because lizards are so small and generally harmless, there are not many things you can do to keep them out of your backyard. Some people try using a garlic and onion repellant spray to keep them out.

Raccoons

Although raccoons have cute faces and look like stuffed animals, the reality is they can be aggressive and even carry rabies.

Because these animals are nocturnal, you should be careful what you leave lying around at night. Make sure you don’t leave trash lying around and put away all of your pet’s food.
