fanpop.com
“Game of Thrones” is the HBO series based on the wildly successful fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin, where knights still wield swords and dragons breathe fire. But with all this drama and swordplay, the eligible and the married alike don’t tend to live very long. Martin seems to take pleasure in killing off major players to keep the story fresh and his audience on edge. So, ladies of the Seven Kingdoms, here are the most eligible bachelors of the realm. You’d better hurry and marry one, for he may not live long in these troubled times. Winter is coming, after all.

5 Jaime Lannister

Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), twin brother of “Queen Mum” Cersei, is a member of the Kingsguard, a group of the best knights in the realm, sworn to guard whoever sits on the Iron Throne. Traditionally these men do not take wives. However, Jaime’s circumstances have changed a bit. At the conclusion of the third season, he is reunited with his sister, with whom he has had an incestuous affair and fathered three children. Not to mention he has lost his right hand. So, his position in the Kingsguard is somewhat in question. Even with these, er, character flaws, we have come to see a new and noble side to the “King Slayer.” His journey to King’s Landing with companion, Brienne of Tarth, has given fans a new and sympathetic view of his character. Perhaps there is a “young lion” on the market for the ladies of Westeros.

4 Jorah Mormont

Fans of the show know little about Ser Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen), other than that he’s a former slave trader and Daenerys Targaryen’s constant protector and advisor. But the dark shadows that often cross his eyes hint at a troubled past. This rugged bachelor could make a fine and loyal husband for a woman who loves travel through the deserts and free cities across the Narrow Sea. He may not have a great fortune (or any money at all, actually), but his fierce loyalty makes him quite the eligible bachelor.

3 Littlefinger

The end of season three saw Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish sailing into the sunset after Tyron Lannister thwarted his secret plans to marry Sansa Stark by quickly arranging for Sansa to wed his son Tyrion instead. However, only a fool would discount Littlefinger’s continuing influence on the activities at King’s Landing. He rose from nothing, and has amassed quite a respectable fortune, as well as the best whore houses in the capital. With his true love dead, and his second choice, her daughter, now out of his grasp, gold-digging ladies of the realm still have a chance with Littlefinger.

In a realm that values legitimate offspring, another bastard son finds himself in a role of great importance: Gendry (Joe Dempsie) is taken on an odyssey of sorts, finally discovering who his birth father really is, or was. The good news: His father was a king. The bad news: The Red Witch, Melisandre, wants Gendry’s blood to help cast her wicked spell to ensure that King Robert’s brother, Stannis Baratheon, ascends to the throne. While she gets his blood, via a few bloody leaches, Melisandre is denied the final sacrifice when Gendry is rescued and sent to the seas. At present, he’s the most eligible bachelor fleeing at sea.

1 Jon Snow

Men of the Night’s Watch, the guardians who protect the people of the seven kingdoms from the dangers that lie north of the Wall, traditionally do not take wives. They also forgo noble titles. However, the vows of the brotherhood do not prevent Jon Snow (Kit Harington), bastard son of Lord Stark of Winterfell, from falling for Ygritte (Rose Leslie), the fierce and beautiful wildling from north of the Wall. When we last saw these two, they were south of the Wall, and Jon professed his loyalty to the Watch. Ygritte rode off into the countryside, leaving Jon alone. Fans are left to wonder if he’ll return to the brotherhood or seek a new path, making him the newest eligible bachelor of the Seven Kingdoms.
