Top 5 Conservative Tweeters

Whether you’re liberal, conservative or somewhere in the middle, it never hurts to be knowledgeable of different points of views. In fact, in can be fun. As an admitted left-leaning political junkie, I often wonder what the other side is thinking. That’s when knowing who the top five conservative tweeters are comes in handy. Where else can you find up-to-the-minute information about America’s top conservative movers and shakers in 140 characters or less? Although this list is constantly changing, there are some predictable mainstays.

5 Glenn Beck @glennbeck — Twitter followers: 670K+ (May, 2013)

Former Fox News Channel personality Glenn Beck rounds out our list at number 5. The nationally-syndicated radio host and bestselling author currently has a little more than 670,000 followers. Glenn is a less interesting tweeter in comparison to the other names on our list. While his tweets consist mainly of self-promotion, he’ll occasionally slip in personal tidbits here in there, usually about his kids. Unfortunately, this likely won’t be enough to keep your interest. Best to get your fill of ‘ol Glenn from his radio show because his tweets will leave you unsatisfied.

4 Sean Hannity @seanhannity — Twitter followers: 675K+ (May, 2013)

Regardless of your political affiliation, you have undoubtedly heard the name Sean Hannity at some point in your recent lifetime. Just behind Duane Patterson, the Fox News Channel host, nationally syndicated radio personality and bestselling author has more than 675,000 followers. Sean is very active on Twitter, striking a nice balance between self-promotion and political commentary. He definitely doesn’t shy away from stating his personal opinions or plugging other conservatives on Twitter. If you want to know the latest issues and people conservatives are talking about, Sean’s Twitter feed is a great place to start.

3 Duane Patterson @radioblogger — Twitter followers: 685K+ (May, 2013)

The last three names on our list prove that media personalities yield enormous influence in the conservative movement and beyond. Kicking off the remaining top conservative tweeters is Duane Patterson, host of the Duane FM radio show and producer of the popular Hugh Hewitt Show, also on radio. Although Duane saves much of his conservative commentary for the radio waves, he is still very active on Twitter, using the medium as a way to interact with his listeners and nearly 700,000 Twitter followers. Interwoven between alerts about upcoming radio guests, Duane can often be found engaged in multiple conservations in Twitter land. It’s kind of hard not to feel special when Duane takes time out of his day to talk to you directly. Conservative or liberal, this is a good move by any standard.

2 Sarah Palin @sarahpalinusa — Twitter followers: 910K+ (April, 2013)

This list wouldn’t be complete if Sarah “You Betcha” Palin wasn’t on it. Despite losing her bid for vice president in 2008, this former Alaska governor turned author remains an influential voice in conservative politics, especially among women. With more than 900,000 followers on Twitter, Sarah does a great job of conveying a down-home personality while simultaneously speaking on the political and newsworthy issues of the day. On her Twitter page, Sarah doesn’t limit her commentary to political issues alone. She also shares personal tweets about herself, her family and her day-to-day experiences. She even tweets links to family photos on her Facebook page with surprising regularity. Although I don’t share Sarah’s political views, I get why she’s so popular. She’s just so dang likeable.

1 Newt Gingrich @newtgingrich — Twitter followers: 1.4 M+ (May, 2013)

With nearly 1.5 million followers, former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich has demonstrated he is still noteworthy. However, don’t expect any witty banter or reflective personal musings from this former presidential hopeful. Newt’s tweets are about as exciting as the assembly instructions that came with your last IKEA purchase. This conservative politico could definitely use a little charm school, preferably the one Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin attended. Until then, we’ll just have to be content reading his almost exclusively political tweets, which consist mainly of links to outside articles or his own website.
