5 ‘Driscoll Middle School Trick Play’
Football is serious business in Texas—even in middle school. The coach concocted an elaborate ruse designed to trick the other team into believing the quarterback was just correcting placement after a penalty rather than making a play. The quarterback admitted he didn’t think it would work, but he walked straight through the line of the opposing team and then broke into a run, scoring a touchdown that put Driscoll Middle School over the top. The problem? Now that millions have seen this video, good luck pulling this trick off again.
4 ‘Mr. Trololo Original Upload’
Although originally uploaded to YouTube toward the end of 2009, this video didn’t get a lot of attention until it appeared on Reddit. In a matter of months, the Soviet-era lip-synch video was an Internet sensation, and Eduard Khil, though known only as “Mr. Trololo” was famous across the web. The video spawned thousands of parodies and remixes, and even a live performance by Khil himself. Sadly, Khil passed away in 2012 after suffering a stroke, but the Trololo video lives on in the hearts and minds of millions.
3 ‘Greyson Chance Singing Paparazzi’
It’s pretty common practice for parents to record videos of their children’s performances in school talent shows. But Greyson Chance isn’t a pretty common child, and his piano and vocal cover of Lady Gaga’s song “Paparazzi,” as performed at his sixth grade talent show, took the Internet by storm. Come for the amazing performance that earned young Greyson a record deal—stay for the unimpressed, bored and confused expressions on the faces of the girls in the stands watching him play. Were they even watching the same show?
2 ‘Yosemitebear Mountain Giant Double Rainbow 1-8-10’
It’s not hard to understand why this beautiful portrayal of such a spiritually and emotionally profound moment became so popular. Who hasn’t cried at the sight of a “full on double rainbow all the way across the sky?” YouTube user “Hungrybear9562” was contacted by several companies that wanted him to do commercials and promotions for them, but the rawness of that clip just can’t be duplicated. Tens of millions of viewers were wiping tears from their eyes as well, as they too wondered “what does it mean?”
1 ‘Bed Intruder Song!!!’
When an intruder entered Antoine Dodson’s home and attempted to attack his sister, he did what any protective brother would do—he fought back. And then he told the local news about it. His interview, in which he warned the other residents of his neighborhood to “hide your kids, hide your wife and hide your husband, ’cause they rapin’ everybody out here” went viral on its own. The Gregory Brothers, already Internet famous for their “Auto Tune the News” series, created an auto-tuned song based on Dodson’s interview that became a hit on iTunes. In Dodson’s words: “You are so dumb. You are really dumb—for real.”
