Robyn Rihanna Fenty came to the United States from Barbados when she was 16 years old, and soon after came out with her debut album in 2005, Music of the Sun, which contained her first major single, Pon de Replay. Since then, Rihanna has come out with hit after hit and is no wonder why she comes in as the 4th highest follower count on Twitter.
3 Katy Perry – 31,525,405 – @katyperry
Hailing from the sunny shores of Santa Barbara, this California Gurl was originally pursuing a career in gospel music before releasing her first single, “I Kissed a Girl” (And it is rumored that she liked it). She enjoyed future success with such singles as “California Gurls”, “Teenage Dream”, “Firework”, “E.T.”, and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”. Now, she’s only a couple million followers away from overtaking Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber as the highest followed on Twitter.

Before transforming into Lady Gaga, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (Yes, that’s her real name) would perform in Manhattan’s Lower East Side music scene where she was eventually signed by recording artist Akon. She then went on a chart-topping rampage with several international singles, topping it off with the Monster Ball Tour, which was one of the highest-grossing concert tours of all time. She is currently competing for the top spot as the highest followed individual on Twitter, only recently beaten out by Justin Bieber (as of 1/22/2013).

Are you a #belieber? Justin Bieber became famous through his YouTube videos and was eventually discovered by talent manager Scooter Braun. His first album, “My World”, debuted at number six on the Billboard 200, selling 137,000 copies in the first week. His second album, “My World 2.0”, did more than twice as good as “My World” debuting at number one on the Billboard 200, selling 283,000 copies in the first week. He recently gained the top spot as the highest followed person on Twitter.
