The enrollment process is simple and straightforward, giving members access to their credit scores within a matter of minutes. Members will provide basic personal information (name, email address and street address), as well as date of birth and Social Security number to help prevent unauthorized access. Customers will also need to provide credit card information. The product will continue to be provided after the 7-day trial unless customers cancel before their trial membership ends.

Several authentication questions relating to information in the credit report must be answered, though the process should be easy to complete. After passing the authentication process and setting up security questions, enrollment will be complete and members will be given access to their credit score.

The credit score provided by FreeCreditScore.com is the PLUS Score, which was developed by Experian and ranges from 330 to 830, helps members understand how lenders view their credit worthiness, but it is not a score used by lenders. The score is initially shown on the Score Planner tool and shows where a member’s credit falls, using various factors which include:

  • • Credit Usage
  • • Payment History
  • • Inquiries
  • • Average age of accounts
  • • Types of credit accounts

Clients can adjust a slider in each category to see potential scores based on their future credit behavior and the Score Center provides a detailed list of factors helping and hurting their scores.

Members who have completed the trial period have unlimited access to their Experian credit report. For those who don’t want to wait, the Experian report can be purchased for immediate viewing for $2.95. A 3-bureau report giving a side-by-side comparison of the information in all three bureau reports is also available for $32.95, which also includes the customer’s credit score for each of the three credit bureaus.

FreeCreditScore.com is primarily a credit monitoring product that sends alerts whenever there are key changes to members’ Experian credit reports such as a late payment, a new credit application or a change of address. Reports are monitored daily, and alerts are sent by email, but they may also be received through text message or iPhone and Android mobile apps.

FreeCreditScore.com also puts an emphasis on monitoring credit scores. Every client’s Experian credit score is automatically updated twice a month. FreeCreditScore.com’s Score Tracking feature allows members to chart their score over time, either on a graph or with a list, to help understand their potential risk level—from very low to very high. Members may set a score goal in 5-point increments to receive an alert when their scores pass above or below this set goal. Members have a lot of control over score alert settings: by default, they are notified whenever their scores change up or down by any amount, but it is easy to change these settings so that they are alerted only when their scores change by 5, 10 or 20 points. Clients will also be notified when a change in their credit score results in a change in their credit scores risk level. Also, another convenient alert feature allows clients to receive email reminders to log in and view their Experian credit scores quarterly or on a specified date.
